The city is located some 140 miles (225 kilometers) from the state capital of Tennessee, Nashville and about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Knoxville.

Those who enjoy the outdoors, will be pleased to learn that the local city also has a few ecological reserves where visitors can enjoy picturesque surrounds and some notable flora and fauna. To tour one of the main conservation reserves, drive to Cove Lake State Park.
