"Beautiful country place outside Rome!"
Only a 30 minute train ride from Rome! Had a beautiful Tuscan feel to it. Besides one other guest we were the only ones there. A beautiful large country estate, with large bedrooms and bathrooms! Largest we had while in Italy. The staff was very sweet and tried to be as helpful as they could, seeing we don't speak Italian! They grow their own vegetables, fruits, olives, and grapes for wine. Their grapes and olives are processed for bottling elsewhere, so it is not technically a vineyard, but still so fun. We wandered all over the property, exploring the grounds and old buildings. Great fun! There is also another estate near by that has a restaurant they took us to which was great. Tip: they do provide free shuttle service to and from the train station between 9a.m. and I believe 9:00 p.m. but if you need a lift any other time they charge 10,00 euros each time. It was very nice of them to provide, but a little pricey because we didn't have a car and it was our only way to the train. The train is literally 5 minutes from the house. We ended up spending 50,00 euros in shuttle service. Overall, though it was one of the nicest places we stayed and now that I have been there and know how it works I would just be prepared and plan accordingly! Would definitely go back, in fact I wish we could've stayed longer!

"The hotel was in an ideal spot - close to airport"
We stayed for 4 days but the experience was so relaxing I could have stayed longer. After spending the days in Rome - it takes about 20 mins from the local station and the shuttle service they provide is second to none - it's great just to get back and chill out on the 1 of 3 garden patios and look at the remarkable views. The rooms are immaculate, fresh bedding and towels daily, air con if you need it! The staff were approachable the language barrier was'nt a problem - three members of staff spoke English. A previous review said the breakfast was basic, I disagree, if cereal, toast, boiled eggs, yogurts, variety of fruit, pastries, ham, cheese, various juice, coffee/tea is basic, what else could they provide! We had an evening meal after returning late from Rome again no problem, even though you are requested to give prior notice - actually we did this a couple of times - you are requested to book the shuttle service the day before, we never did, I can't think of anything negative to say, except thank you so much for recharging my batteries and I hope to see you all again soon! Thanks a million times over to the driver of the shuttle bus your patience is a credit to you.

Lovely hotel, very romantic setting...an absolute gem.Only 30 mins train ride from Rome, set on a hill..fantastic view.Hotel 's bus shuttle is great-organised drop off and pick up times-makes eating out very easy(did'nt eat lunch or dinner at hotel). You must go into Frascatti (3 mins on shuttle) - lovely place.Drinks at Hotel very reasonable. Swimming pool is great-probably helped by temperatures of 34-35 degrees whilst there! Breakfast very nice.Cost £163 b&b 3 nights - no brainer.Enjoy !!!

"A warm, friendly hotel with breathtaking views"
We hired a car, as we were going to drive to see our cousins several time during our stay. I would recommend car hire as the hotel is fairly isolated, however they operate a courtesy shuttle to Castel Gandolfo station. On the first day we had wonderful meals on the beautiful hotel terrace for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is very good. There's no light lunch or snack menu, though. The buffet breakfasts were very good by Italian standards, with eggs & bacon, fresh fruit, hams, salamis and cheese, breads, croissants, cakes. The swimming pool is lovely, with comfy sunloungers around the pool. If there's a function going on, access could be limited. There are also tables and chairs where you can sit and read. Castel Gandolfo is a sleepy, very pretty village. We also drove to the 'Castelli Romani', the hill towns. Demanding driving, but pretty. Visitors with children could make use of the 'beaches' around the north side of the lake. There are lots of restaurants and snack bars around that side of the lake. The room was pretty, comfortable, acceptable but not particularly well appointed, lacking drawer space and good lighting. It was clean but the floor hadn't been washed, so our feet got dirty. The views, however, over the lake, were sublime. The staff were very helpful and courteous, however they didn't offer us help up the stairs with our cases on arrival, and there isn't a lift. I'm sure we'll go back to the Villa degli Angeli quite soon; it is a special place.

Pocket Guide: Castelli Romani, Rome Romantic Hotels

Favoured as an out-of-town retreat for the Romans, the Castelli Romani are hilltop villages descended from fortified castles of the Middle Ages. Set on the outer rims of extinct volcanic craters of the Albani Hills, the air is refreshing and the rich, volcanic soil is ideal for vine-growing. Well-known for its crisp, white wine, Frascati is the most accessible of the Castelli Romani. Nearby is the Pope’s summer palace, the Castel Gandolfo.
