Wonderful place to relax for a few days. Sabina and Saro make you feel like you are staying with family. Dinner and Breakfast were amazing. They use a lot of products that they grow on the property. There olive oil is fantastic. I highly recommend staying here.

We had such a wonderful stay! we wished that we had stayed longer. The hosts could not do enough for us, the food in the restaurant was delicious and very authentic with locally sourced ingredients. The room was comfortable, clean and had a balcony to relax on too!

2 single beds put together to make double. Roll between & if not for the sheet you sink into crack.
Dinners good but overpriced. To use sauna and hot tub extra. But, spot convenient for what I wanted to do. Feels like no privacy because you can hear sounds of people speaking in halls and downstairs and room next door!

An oasis of peace/relaxation & excellent cuisine
From arrival to leaving this resort it is an oasis of peace, we choose to spend the days relaxing by the pool having already come from Catania. Others went off sightseeing locally. Our hosts cook fresh fish & pasta daily & the cuisine is excellent so really worth booking an evening meal or two. The ambience is friendly & peaceful in an olive grove with many fruit trees & the owners have received awards for their eco friendly organic garden & produce. If you want to get away from it all & be pampered by your hosts this is the place to go. Thank you Sabine & Saro.

Half hour drive to nearest beach, good facilities
Clean, spacious rooms with good views of countryside. Good free wifi and pool. Very glad we had breakfast included. Rooms have fridge but no other kitchen type facility available. Live in owners; Italian married to a German, are always around and helpful. Car is essential as this is on a country road a good half hour from Giardinin Naxos or 40 min drive to Taormina. You need to be a confident, calm driver on these narrow roads with impatient locals trying to get past.

Amazing Experience
I don't really know where to start :) As a Sicilian living overseas, i am really proud of what Casale Romano represents: a n unforgettable hospitality experience. Nature, Relax, Organic products, Amazing food and more. You will no be treated as a random guest, but you will be welcomed and treated as a friend. I felt sick due to a sunstroke and Sabina called a doctor and made me an amazing drink that made me feel much better. Thanks for everything!

Quite and peaceful room with garden and pool.
the host was very nice when we arrived but gave us lot of very useful information before giving the room key and we were unable to remember them at this time. Room was spacious and clean but there was no window only a glass door that my wife was afraid to open in the night cause we were on the ground floor. Our fridge did not work but we could use the kitchen fridge. The price seemed to be a bit high but at this area hotel prices are higher than in other parts of Sicily.

Great base camp. Lovely hosts.
We used the hotel as a base - only had 3 evening meals there, very enjoyable casa produce and local specialities. (not so good if you are vegetarian and or lactose intolerant) but your hosts will accommodate if you tell them. We used the Casale as a base from which to explore 100kms around, across some fairly dodgy roads - hint, get a small car but with some performance, you will need it. You are just a short drive West from views of Etna, East to the Beach coast. A bit further to get to the north and south coasts but doable and worth it. It's also possible to use the hotel for a rest day between extensive touring. It has good patio and pool and a sauna and steam room. You will need to pop up to the supermarket to pick up any lunch time supplies (fruit, beer, etc) as there is no service during the day.

Wonderful hosts
We had a memorable 8 day stay. This hotel is not without it's faults. The road is nearby and takes some getting used to and the rooms are pretty basic with beds and linen that need updating. However, the friendliness of the hosts makes up for these shortcomings. Their passion for Sicilian cuisine, their pride in the local wines and their helpfulness in ensuring that you go to the right places and see the right things is intoxicating. By way of example, we liked a particular red wine which ran out one evening. We were happy to have another, but Sabine rang the owner of the vineyard and he came round with some more and introduced himself. That's what I call good service!

Disappointing. We expected more.
Welcoming owners, keen to please but the facilities and room were not as good as we expected. Room was spacious but basic, no effort of co-ordination in furnishings. Two single beds pushed together. Bathroom had a good sized shower cubicle but poor quality towels. Kettle provided but you had to pay extra for tea and coffee. Breakfast choice reasonable. Perhaps a better experience would be had if you could sit outside or use the pool area but the weather was not warm enough when we went so unless you stay in your room there was nowhere on the premises to go. The in-house spa we did not bother with as being an expensive add-on. They have a captive audience for the 4- course dinner as there are limited options nearby but the price charged does not merit what they provide. Most of the food was not homemade as we had expected it would be given the few guests they cater for. Example dinner we had:- broccoli for starter (yes, just broccoli) then pasta twists in an almost dry dark green coating then a small fish fillet from an eel-like fish about 3' long we later saw in a market costing just 10€ per kilo which would have fed all 8 of us staying there which was served with (just) chopped tomatoes then a semifreddo dessert - obviously from a catering sized slab. Very disappointing. After dinner there was nowhere to go but your room. Thank goodness for the free wi-fi ! So overall, not the stylish establishment with local cuisine that we expected given other write-up's.

Small friendly hotel in foothills of Etna
Staff made us very welcome, and we're most kind in preparing a delicious evening meal for us at quite a late hour. (We had warned them in advance). The hotel was a little hard to find in the dark on the first occasion as the sign is quite discreet. The only problem was road noise in the early mornings, but luckily I had brought earplugs!

We stayed here for 3 nights. Unfortunately the weather was below average and we weren't able to enjoy the pool and terrace as much as we would have liked. The buffet breakfast was first class with plenty of choice. The evening meals are high quality with each course accompanied by an explanation by the owners of the origins and method of preparation of the ingredients.

Well placed for Etna and surrounding area
The hotel was well maintained and the owners were very helpful with tips about the best places to visit. You'll need a care to make the best of your stay as it's a fair way from the airport and coast, with limited public transport. Buffet breakfast is leisurely - served from 8-10 and evening meals are an interesting mix of local ingredients, traditional Sicilian fare and the hosts own innovations. The 4 course meals are cooked fresh from locally sourced ingredients, with a fish and pasta course, but not huge portions and you have the hosts personal explanations of the dish, its origins and preparation.

Lovely hotel in the mountains
The surroundings of this hotel are absolutely beautiful, the scenery is stunning. Pool area is lovely and quiet most of the time, we even had the whole pool to ourselves a few times. The people that own the hotel are very nice, they will help you out as best they can. We had understood from the room amenities that are advertised that we would have a kitchen, we were delighted with this because we thought that we could cook lunch and dine out in the evening, but the issue was that a "private kitchen" meant basically a kettle. We had dinner the first night there and although the food was lovely, we thought that it was a bit over-priced. We were offered a choice of either grappa or limoncello after our meal, and my husband thought it was so nice he asked for another one. When we checked out and paid our bill, we discovered that we were charged for the three drinks at €4 each, we didnt expect that.Rooms are definitely not sound-proofed as advertised, we could hear the people next door using the toilet. Overall it was a lovely holiday, but it is very rural and no restaurants or bars in walking distance. A car is definitely needed.

The hosts are delightful, nothing was ever too much trouble! Always in good humour and had plenty of sightseeing advice. This resort has a very relaxing atmosphere, the evening meals were lovely, breakfast was too! Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take advantage of the Spa or pool facilities, 5 days just weren't enough.

very friendly owners, very attentive and welcoming ignore the SatNav co-ordinates on their website as according to our SatNav they were nearly 10 miles out!! The hotel is located a few hundred metres beyond the local attraction Gola d'Alcantara on the left of the main road between the Motta Camastra turn-off towards Taormina We ate at the hotel all four nights - the food was fresh local produce used in classic Sicilian dishes and was really good with the owners providing background info - thoroughly recommended

An oasis of calm
Really welcoming hosts who are willing to help with all your needs and information requests. Delightful surroundings, parking your car in the orange grove (help yourself!), sitting on the balcony surrounded by the mountains and with a distant sea view. Ask about the local Etna guide who can take you on an informative day trip with hiking, far away from the madding crowds and at a similar price to the main tourist attraction.

A wonderful place to stay
This is a fantastic, small, family run, hotel and an ideal place from which to explore eastern Sicily. The room was first rate, the setting delightful and the pool a wonderful place to cool off after a walk up Etna or round the Alcantara gorge. The family were exceptionally helpful; one of our party required medical treatment during our stay and they organised a doctor's home visit, timed to minimise the disruption to our holiday. The evening meals were exceptional. It was a set menu which largely depended on what was available fresh in the market that day. The food was fantatastic and with each course the husband would come round and explain where he sourced the ingredients, the wife would then explain how they were cooked. It was a real experience and not to be missed. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Hotel with a difference
This hotel is very different from most and makes a change to the normal hotel. The owners live on site and are very attentive and make ensure a homely feel to your stay. A home cooked meal is provided every night and drinks are provided through a 'honesty' pad on the reception. The meal is cooked every day and special effort is made for veggies. The setting of the hotel is lovely, though it is probably best to hire a car to get around. From the hotel you are able to travel to many attractions on the island, Etna being nearby and Taromina the local resort.

Coeliac well catered for
We stayed four nights with our teenage daughters and were treated very well, especially by the kitchen once we told them that our 15 year old needed a gluten free diet. The host family bought and prepared gluten free food for her including wafers and even home made GF cakes for breakfast, and a four course meal every evening with GF pasta and other adaptations of the main menu. The pool was a welcome treat in a very hot week, and the owners very friendly and helpful. The aircon in the double bedroom was more efficient than in the twin.

Pleasant and good value
We had an enjoyable stay at Casale Romano. The owners were very welcoming. The place is about 30 minutes away from Taormina and only 5 mins walk from Alcantara Gorge. There are a few really nice restaurants in the area. The pool was great. We stayed there in July so it was very hot and we found that the aircon could not cope. It was hot and stuffy in the room. Also there was no fridge. The room and the bathroom were cleaned every day but the towels were not changed. There was a message displayed by the reception that the guests were not allowed to take food or drinks to the rooms.

We had a three night stay in this lovely hotel. It was very comfortable and the owners were most welcoming. We had dinner in the hotel each evening and, without exception, they were excellent. "A delightful guest house with a warm welcome"
Sabina and her husband made us feel so very welcome and went to a great deal of trouble to make our holiday experience special. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and on the day they decorated our room with a flower arrangement and flower petals on the bed. They gave us good advice on where to visit each day. We especially liked the setting of Casale Romano Resort Guest House surrounded by the fruit trees with the colours of the fuit and the perfume of the flowers. It was lovely and peaceful to sit in those surroundings.

"Warmest welcome ever"
We received the warmest welcome possible and would thoroughly recommend the resort to travellers looking for an individual hotel and a unique experience, nothing was too much trouble for the owners and their staff. The building itself has been tastefully restored with a perfect balance of traditional and contemporary design . Rooms are pleasing to the eye and have been individually furnished to reflect the style of the property. We had a lovely five days exploring the area and its restaurants despite the valley receiving the worst storms ever ! (Totally out of character for early November)

Pleasant and friendly 'agriturismo'
We stayed for two weeks in an apartment in this 'agriturismo' guesthouse in Oct 2010. The owner speaks good English and could not have been more friendly and helpful, offering her guests fresh oranges, lemons and walnuts from the garden, and regularly checking that we had all we needed. It did rain quite a bit while we were there so we didn't use the swimming pool, which looked nice. Breakfast is available in the guesthouse if required (5 euros) and Sabine cooks evening meals for guests occasionally in season (we chose to be self-catering as we were touring a lot). Our ground-floor apartment comprised 3 rooms - a living/dining/kitchen, a bedroom with comfortable kingsize bed (European-style two single mattresses on double base) and a spacious bathroom with washbasin, bidet, WC, shower cubicle and plentiful hot water. The living/dining room had a dining table with four chairs, small TV with satellite (a few English-speaking channels), a double bunk-bed unit with wardrobe, and an elderly sofa-bed. The kitchen area had sink, cupboards, a four-burner gas hob & oven (no grill), tall fridge-freezer and basic utensils. There was no washing machine but Sabine offered laundry services if needed. There was an outside terrace area with table and chairs and lovely views. The apartment was pleasantly located about 20 minutes from Giardini-Naxos and an hour from Catania airport. It was a good touring base and very good value. A much better choice than staying in a hotel in Taormina.

A Real Treat
This hotel is a real treat if you are looking for a peaceful break to recharge your batteries. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the owners. Their gererousity, kindness and hospitality was first rate, nothing was too much trouble for them. We had the 'Superior' class of room which was spacious and comfortable. There is not an evening meal offered every night, but when it is the standard of food is excellent, as is the local wine. The only downside is the closeness of the road (which can't be seen), but this is more than compensated by the views from around the swimming pool.

Lovely place, ideal location for exploring Sicily
Casale Romano is a lovely place in the perfect location if you want to explore Sicily by car. Excellent service, clean and spacious rooms and good food. Very good value for money as well. The host Sabine and her husband speak English and German and can give you good advice on exploring the island. Occasionally they offer a meal in the evening, which is handy as you will have to drive to get to a restaurant. Breakfast and these dinners were good; all home-made or local produce, plenty of variety and choice. I can really recommend this place.

Casale Romano - a home from home
Our 8 days at Casale Romano recently were wonderfully relaxed and enjoyable. Sabina's very welcoming guest house was a perfect location for us as we intended to see the north-eastern part of Sicily using our hire car, which is essential for exploring the mountain villages and Etna. Every day, Sabina made sure that we had everything we needed and gave plenty of helpful suggestions about our daily trips. Having dinner at CR was a central feature of our holiday - it was always simple but delicious home cooked food, so we ate 'at home' six times in all! Our room was perfectly adequate - spacious and airy, with a useful balcony. We enjoyed being able to use the pool area very much as a relaxation after a day out. Although the guest house is on a main road the traffic does not intrude. Sicilian people are lovely and very friendly, the scenery is stunning and the architecture beautiful. Highly recommended.

Great place off the beaten track
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Casala Romano for a week and despite initially thinking that perhaps it was too far away from the coast and the more bustling tourist area of Toarmina, we were really glad we did. It was about a 30 min drive to the coast and the main towns, but after spending a day with other tourists we were quite glad to leave it behind and head to the countryside. As all the other reviews have mentioned Sabina and her husband really make you feel at home and always at hand to offer advice about the best beaches to go to or the best routes. We stayed in a superior room on a b&b basis which although not overly fancy and slightly dark was completely fine for what we needed . The only downside was the removal of the fridge, which although there is free bottled water from the kitchen, a fridge in the room would have been nice especially when it was so hot. We really enjoyed the regular home cooked dinners that Sabina offered. I would recommend staying for dinner at least one night of your stay as not only is it very reasonably priced, the quality (and quantity) of food was amazing and in fact we ate there twice. We had a lovely time in Sicily and would recommend Casala Romano if you are looking to get slightly off that beaten track.

Very pleasant and homely
Situated on the North East of the island away from the crowded tourist areas, Casale Romano is a beautiful and friendly place to stay. Sabina, her family and their dog Harold made us feel so welcome. They are incredibly proud of the retreat they have created and look after it well. The family live onsite and so were always pottering around if we needed them. Casale Romano is an excellent alternative to the over-priced, over-rated hotels in nearby Taormina. We stayed here for 11 nights and there was plenty to keep us occupied for the whole time. Every two days, Sabina invited us to stay for dinner, which we did four times. Everything is home-grown and her cooking is exquisite. Sabina and her husband love to talk about the food; how it's cooked and it's traditional Sicilian influences. Everything was very reasonably priced. Sabina's knowledge of the local area proved invaluable during our stay. We would let her know our plans every morning and she always knew the best route to take, what to do and see and other attractions to look out for on the way. She even invited us out on the family boat on our last day and then sent us home with armfuls of fresh lemons and oranges picked from the trees in her gardens. As it is quite secluded hiring a car is essential. But more than this, a car is very handy for getting around Sicily in general. I think we would have been at a disadvantage without one. There is ample parking onsite. Wwe couldn't have picked a better place to stay.

Beautiful guest house
We had a lovely week at Casale Romano. The guest house was a perfect location for us as we had a hire car, which you do need if you are going to see other parts of Sicily. Sabina and her family were on hand for any questions we had and their service was great. We stayed in the apartment area of the guest house, which was a little outdated and could have done with more utensils as we had self catering and ate lunch in the apartment. The only down side we had was that we had to take out our own rubbish and supply our own toilet tissues. We had dinner once at CR which was a home cooked meal and reasonably priced and the rest of the was spent down in Giardini Naxos. The pool area was very relaxing and though the guest house is on a main road you don't tend to hear much traffic. The scenery is amazing and a visit to Gole Alcantara is a must. We also used the spa at the guest house. Should we visit Sicily again,we would definitely go back to Casale Romano
