“Paradise in Catania”

Having travelled all of the world this is the first time I have chosen to write a review. This is due to the standard of the accommodation which can only be described as top draw. The castle is stunning with a near Olympic swimming pool to top off the beautiful ground. the family that own the castle are amazing and so so friendly and happy to do anything for you. Will defo be back soon .

“Queens of the Castello”

I spent a long weekend here with two girlfriends. It's a perfect to place to relax and get away from it all. The pool is gorgeous and the whole place immaculately clean. There is nowhere to eat within walking distance so you have to get a taxi into Catania in the evenings. The owners are extremely helpful and will arrange transport for you. Although there is no restaurant on site, the owners did offer to cook for us and we gladly took them up on this one evening, so they bought our food to our terrace. Lovely! Although the Castello is near the beach, to access it you have to walk down a busy, pavement-less dual carriage way. Really NOT a good idea. And if you manage to get to the beach without being run over it turns out to be strewn with rubbish and litter. Best stay by the pool!

“Highly unusual - stay in castle grounds !”

A superb bed and breakfast place for adults wanting something different. The Castello is a small mock castle belonging to a family who have built a couple of apartment blocks in the palm-studded grounds for tourists. Each block has 4 or 5 en-suite rooms with a shared kitchen/eating area (self-serve breakfast). Like the Castello, the rooms are artistically decorated (a woman's touch - lilac walls and ornate iron beds), but the walls are a bit thin - you can be disturbed by neighbours late at night. The whole place is very restful, with lovely gardens and a 20-metre pool. The hostess speaks fluent English and is ever so helpful. However, this is not a place for kids, because: - the pool has no shallow part - they keep two giant old dogs, one of which has red eyes, slobbers, and would make mincemeat of the Hound of the Baskervilles...(to be fair, they are mostly locked away) Situation is close to the airport, but you have to drive into Catania or even to get on the beach.

Wonderful clean and friendly place. Quiet in isolated location. Common breakfast room a bit close to sleeping rooms and could get noisy with inconsiderate other guests.

“Fit for a king and queen”

Unfortunately we only stayed one night in the Castello d'Urso Somma but we were impressed with the service from the beginning. Our flight was delayed by 5 hours from Pisa to Catania so instead of arriving at 10.20pm we arrived at about 3.20am in the morning. We notified the owner of the Castello that we would be arriving late and she organised a car to meet us which was just as well as there were no taxis available at Catania airport at that time of night. The following morning we arranged with the person who picked us up at the airport to take us to our car rental company. The Castello owners were not put out by our tardiness and instead welcomed us expressing their disappointment in the delay & the airline. The grounds of the Castello are carefully manicured and well kept and the pool is exceptional. It is close to Catania airport (around 6km) but remains in a serene and tranquil setting. Breakfast is continental and the rooms are clean and sufficiently spacious. The bathroom was also quite large. It is close to Catania and other points of interest if you have a car to get around and wish to explore the east coast of Sicily.

“An oasis”

I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the hotel. The rooms were spotlessly clean all of the time and the owners were very helpful. The pool is huge and rarely used it seemed. The dogs look dangerous, but are as soft as anything. Breakfast is basic, but OK. The only comment on the rooms is that they could do with a little sound proofing. But, a warning... you need a car as there are NO restaurants, shops or bars close by. The closest beaches - that you pay to access - cant be walked to (unless you want to walk down a dual carraigeway that has no paths or hard shoulder!).
