Nice little touches from a big, classy hotelPosted Dec 30, 2013
Pros: Attention to detail Excellent staff Excellent presentation
Cons: Clearer information about hotel facilities
Location: Aci Castello is a good walk away but a pleasant small town. The coast is lava rock and not beachy Etna tours collecting at the hotel are superb!
Although the overriding character of the hotel is Grand, with large rooms, beautifully presented facilities and communal areas and a spectacular view from the balcony and breakfast room, the little touches are what really set it apart. Staff accommodated some special requests for my honeymoon; went the extra mile with cocktails delivered to the room; efficiently resolved a crisis with airport transport; and took good care of us in the spa with a few local treats including prosecco and snacks. Food in the restaurant was truly Sicilian in its generosity and was cooked to perfection. All in all a fabulous stay in a very nice hotel, rounding off a magical 2 weeks in Sicily for some English visitors with very little experience of European travel.

the hotel is nothing grand but the views and the swimming and pool area make it a great place to stay

Avoid at all costs!!!Posted Sep 8, 2013
Pros: The bed was very comfortable
Cons: Pretty much everything! Could do with being torn down and re-built and employing new staff who care!!
Location: Catania is 20 minutes away. Aci Castillo is a 10 minute drive away. Lots of delicious restaurants to try in both areas!
Where do I begin? Outdated hotel in need of renovation - constant noise from other rooms and cleaners in the hallways. No wi-fi in most rooms, and when you do get wi-fi, you need a new 15 digit code every 12 hours!!! The in room safe broke twice. Breakfast was awful! It is supposedly served between 7am and 10am, but turn up at 9am and there is nothing left. And no, they don't replenish the hot food once it's all gone! Worst of all was the horrid chemical smell in the breakfast room! Enough to put you off your food!! Rude staff, who just shrug their shoulders if you report a problem. The indoor bar was not open, but the "American Bar" at the pool was open, meaning you had to run across the pool area in thunderstorms and rain if you wanted a drink. Just save yourself the hassle and don't stay here! You will be in for lots of disappointment!!

relaxing hotel away from the town centrePosted Aug 30, 2013
Pros: good value, quiet location
Cons: need to relax about the pool towels - pillows not comfortable (sponge), no extractor fans in the bathroom!
Location: a short trip into town - having a car is handy, free parking at the hotel.
very friendly staff and overall good services - mostly italian guests which was a good sign, and good for those wanting to escape the tourists. free parking, free wi-fi throughout the hotel and grounds, life-guard watching the sea-front (some days) and a flexible bar at the poolside (generous with the bar snacks!). breakfast included with a good selection (although the cooked part was a bit limited).

Pleasant stay close to the City of CataniaPosted Jul 26, 2013
while location is great, hotel needs to move to the year 2013 and be aware of changes in society and different needs. Unless willing to leave the hotel, there is basically not much to do in the hotel except enjoy the beautiful view with a drink. A piano bar would be a nice option and also a buffet available for snacks during day and afternoon would be a nice touch. Currently hotel is not targeting any audience, just providing sleeping accomodations for whoever shows up.

Great location for exploring east coast and EtnaPosted Jun 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
Enjoyable apart from frenetic and aggressive Italian driving. Hotel was good but dont expect prompt service. You need to be able to chill out and wait. Breakfast was variable and exactly the same each day. if you go too late choices are limited as they do not seem to replace some of the dishes once finished.

Catania's best hotel with coastal splendorPosted May 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
Exceptional hotel set with a traditional splendor in a unique location overlooking the sea. We looked at a lot of hotel options and were delighted with our choice of Baia Verde. Nicely modernised, the bedroom accommodation was top notch with large and very comfortable bed. Well located, convenient to Catania and also just a 5 minute taxi ride from the "must do" restaurants of the outlying sea village of Acitrezza or an 8 minute seaview walk from La Scogliera restaurant. Good hotel facilities including outdoor pool, sun loungers, outdoor bar, restaurant area. Opportunity to sea swim and scuba dive (both in season) and good massage and treatment facility. Free carparking and wifi. Hotel's positive points more than outweigh a few nagging issues, which the hotel could easily fix - such as the irritating regular need to refresh free wifi vouchers, stronger poolside wifi coverage, more inviting dinner menu, and proactive replenishment of breakfast foods and crockery/cutlery. For the future the Hotel could invest in a better indoor pool and add aircon to its gym.

Old, large conference hotelPosted Apr 14, 2013
Cons: size and age, building work
Location: need a car because not near anything
This hotel is an old, faded conference hotel. Burnt out restaurant next door. (not a good view) Building work going on next to outdoor restaurant making it noisy. Room a very, very long way from Reception. Nearly cut and run, not impressed with this hotel.

good hotel to explore the nearby attractionsPosted Sep 19, 2012
We struggled to find the place for a bit by car as tuck away in a small side street that our sat nav was ignoring and we had to find on foot. Once there we were initially surprised to see it is actually a residential block of flats. However, once in we felt very welcome by the owners/staff who helped us with all the practical info about parking, discovering the town and also touring the nearby attraction - the valley of the temples. The room was clean and very practical. It was very quiet and there was nothing more we needed. Breakfast was served with a smile and in a very friendly manner in contrast with all the other hotels we stayed in Sicily. The owner asked us whether we prefer to have savory breakfast as the usual breakfast whereever in Sicily is sweet pastry and cakes - we thought that was a nice touch aknowledging he cares about pleasing the customers. The only downside is the easy to take your luggage in the hotel if you have some mobility issues. The entrance is up on a steep small street and parking (if adhering to the rules) is not possible at the entrance. So travel light :) Otherwise, overall a pleasant stay!

A great hotel for our first visit to SicilyPosted Jul 22, 2012
Pros: Good food and drinks, comfortable beds, good bathroom. Helpful English speaking staff. Good pool area and great sea views.
Cons: The evening menus were very traditional Sicilian. We would have liked a little more evening entertainment.
Location: A quiet location close to Catania. A hire car or taxis are preferable to public transport.
A wonderful location beside the sea. We appreciated the helpful staff and the comfortable room with a balcony. There was an excellent choice at breakfast and we were satisified with the snacks served in the pool bar. We enjoyed some of the restaurant food in the evenings. It helps to discuss the menu with the waiter to make the right choice since the meals tend to be traditional in nature. I made use of the gym which was adequate and we were happy with the sunbeds/parasols. The swimming pool has a shallow part for children and is deep enough for diving. Some liked to swim in the sea. There was music for teenagers one evening. The hotel air conditioning helped us with the mid July temperatures. Overall a great place to relax and work on your sun tan. We initially found the local buses difficult and would suggest a taxi to and from the airport.
