next to private beach, lovely staff

Posted Aug 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
Luxury clean room with big bathroom. Comfortable bed. The food.in the restaurant was lovely and the staff were very helpful. However the bar next door played loud music until late which was quite annoying. The best feature was the private beach across the road from the hotel equipped with sun loungers and parasols.

Real feel for Sicily

Posted Jun 10, 2013
Pros: The view is great and the sound of the ocean cant be beat.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Be sure to go over the Norman Castle area. Eat over there at least one time. Food is definitely authentic.
Don't waste your time on big cities and big name hotels. This was a great way to see some real Sicilian culture and experience great "non-tourist" food. Staff was helpful, breakfast was nice and you are only a 15 to 25 minute drive to Catania.

Not recommended

This hotel has no parking, so I was forced to park a block from the hotel on the street. There was no room service because the restaurant was closed. When I went to the room: There was no water and the TV did not work. Both were fixed, though. The paint/plaster in the bathroom was peeling. I would not recommend this hotel

Grand Hotel Faraglioni for a quiet holiday

Posted Oct 29, 2010 on Hotels.com
This hotel is situated in a small fishing village 18km from Catania airport. It is a bit out of the way if you want to use public transport to view the sights. However for a quiet, relaxing holiday it is ideal. There didn't appear to be any garden/terrace for guests to use other than the outside space for the cafe at the front of the hotel. The room balcony had a beautiful view of Cyclops Bay but was very small - barely accommodates one chair so it would have been nice to have access to a garden/terrace. The village itself is really lovely and the people very friendly and helpful. The pier and port areas were being refurbished while we were there and should be lovely when complete.

This very comfortable hotel is on the waterfront and views of the bay and coastline are stunning. It proved to be an excellent choice. The hotel car park is a major problem as it is off a very narrow street and the entrance is also narrow. Fortunately we found that the main town car park by the harbour has a free section and so we used that for the rest of our stay.

I never felt safe on the island, driving is incredibly stressful and dangerous, and personal safety whilst out walking was a constant worry in Catania itself. Charming hotel (Faraglioni), but not much English spoken once you go out and about - not even simple words e.g. food and drink items. I will not be returning here.

A curate's egg - good in parts

Splendid seafront position.Very pleasant and helpful staff. the hotels parking was very difficult to get in to - very tight and often blocked - because the resort is very busy often difficult to park nearby. The breakfast offered was quite dull though the coffee was excellent.

Great location

Great location right on the water. A/c wasn't working in my room, but I was upgraded to a sea view. The food was very good also. Get there early to find parking, since it is a popular area and the hotel parking is very tiny.
