“Poor location”

This is a nice and pleasant resort if your vacation plans are to relax and read a book by the pool. That was not what I was looking for. I assumed this hotel was near the beach, which turned out to be a very wrong assumption. There is absolutely nothing near this place. To go out to a restaurant other than the resort's restaurant is a long taxi ride that includes a 50 peso surcharge for the driver coming out of his way. We found this location extremely inconvenient.

Area recommendations

I would try to stay at White Sands or one of the other resorts that is on the beach.

“Out of the Way, nice resort”

too far away from city. no taxi service there, and costs twice as much to get a taxi out there. that alone would keep me from going back. too far away. standard room way too small if going to stay more than one night. upgrade to larger room and is OK room for longer stay. restaurant is top notch. good food and service. pool area is nice. makes a good resort location for large groups.

there are no areas or neighborhood. it is isolated. cab ride to anywhere else.

“An oasis in Mactan island”

Our stay at Alta Cebu was an unexpected delight. We enjoyed the secluded privacy of the resort,its lush, tropical landscape, inviting pool area, night-time entertainment and the delicious, reasonably- priced meals. The staff went out of their way to ensure our complete satisfaction from upgrading our room, to arranging our island-hopping adventure, to preparing a made-to-order dinner by Chef Joseph. We will definitely go back if we get a chance!

Getting around

It's best to contract the services of the local cab companies at the airport. They charge a flat rate and the drivers double as local tour guides.

“A Very Pleasant Stay...will definitely return!”

I spent 8 days at Alta Cebu Resort and found it to be a quaint yet elegant little resort. I did a good bit of research prior to my trip looking for the perfect place to stay. I could have gone to one of the upscal hotels that offered comparable, perhaps even better amenities, but that was not what I was looking for, I just wanted to have a quiet time with my fiancee', and that is exactly what we experienced. At Alta Cebu Resort, the staff are genuinely determined to make sure you are as comfortable as possible, and will go out of their way within reason to make sure of it. One example worth mentioning is when I lost my phone in a taxi, the hotel security had detailed record of the taxi company, the taxi number, as well as the driver's name. The front desk spent time over the following days making calls trying to track my phone down for me. One of the staff, Oliver, actually took time on his day off to contact his friend with the police to see if he could recover my phone. I also had the pleasure of sitting and visiting with Larry the owner of the resort, and shared some ideas with him to make the place more compelling, and he was very open and interested in my comments. Overall, I would highly recommend this resort, but it is a nichy sort of place that caters to a specific vibe, and just happened to be exactly what I was looking for. Do your research carefully, but if you choose Alta Cebu Resort, they will make sure you enjoy your stay.

“An environmentally friendly Haven”

Having had surgery in Manila, I was wanting a relaxing getaway in a friendly environment, and ALTA Resort in Cebu certainly provided it. Although out of the way from the airport, a call to the hotel resulted in a quick and very welcoming pick-up. On arrival, I was greeted with a refreshing drink and taken to my comfortable and aesthetically pleasing room. Although at first not being allowed to bring in food may seem a little harsh, the cleanliness of the inviting gardens and walkways soon makes you appreciate this guideline. It is like an exotic oasis after Manila and when I return, I will be very tempted to spend most of my time just enjoying the pool within the grounds. This time, unable to swim, I booked a couple of local trips which were excellent in organisation, cost, and friendliness of the driver / guide. Not only was delicious food provided in a beautiful setting at the hotel, I was introduced to the area's fresh and simply yummy dishes at local dining places. The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful, and interacted with me as a valued guest and as a welcome person. Locally handcrafted jewellery of shells and coral made wonderful keepsakes for me and presents for friends. Not only would I recommend this hotel to family and friends, I look forward to returning for a longer stay myself.

Area recommendations

The beach for swimming in sparkling clean water and island hopping for snorkelling and diving. I regret not being able to indulge in these activities this time, but even so I enjoyed simply walking along the coast and chatting to some locals while watching others I had met at the resort somewhat enviously. The Spanish Bascilica was stunning - paintings, including on the ceilings, carvings and leadlight windows quite breathtaking. Historical sites, such as where the local population fought for their freedom, relics - including the Cross of Majellan still in its original location, and buildings ranging from cathedrals to forts interested me greatly, but also the incredibly bright flora in parks, and a street parade of huge, garland-strewn statues carried on motorbikes with sidecars. Local restaurants were generally clean, the food wide in choice and delciously fresh, and the serving staff helpful and inviting.

When to go

I went in early August so there was still some wet-season rain but nonetheless I was able to get around in pleasant temperatures.

A cheap short flight from Manila gets you to Cebu.

I suggest using the tour services provided by the hotel as the guide was knowledgeable, and friendly without being intrusive.

What to pack

Bring your swimsuit and light summer clothes but some walking shoes are needed. It is quite humid so natural fabrics are best. On offer are excellent golf links as well as beaches so be prepared for a relaxed getaway.

Dining

Local seafood and other produce is fresh and the taste worth remembering.

Family-friendly activities

Very family-friendly in all outdoor activities.

Other

For me the friendliness and helpfulness of local people were the real gems of Cebu.

“way to far from everything”

hotel reception is great, the place is nice with live music at nite, rooms still need fixing, place is too far from everything and it's not a beach front like it say's on the advertisement.

Thank you for your review. Alta staff is grateful for all the nice things this guest says about us. I am a little perplexed that the reasons he will not recommend us is that we are, as he says, far from the city and not directly on a beach. After an extensive search I cannot find anywhere online that advertise a beach at Alta. We do advertise that Alta offers a free shuttle to the many Cebu beaches, including one that is less than a mile away. Some guests prefer to discover secluded beaches by boating from Alta Bay Dock to the many nearby islands, which is not an available option from many of the beach resorts. Though I confess that Alta is a little bit of a hideaway, we are still the closest resort to Cebu City. Many guests think the 30 to 45 minute ride to Cebu City is a worthwhile trade-off, exchanging stress and smog of the city for tranquility of our beautiful pool and gardens. We totally refurbished most of the guest rooms (to the extent that many guests say they look brand new). Perhaps we ran out of refurbished rooms and had to put this guest into soon-to-be refurbished room. We recently started our personal butler service, so that guests will have only one person accountable for all their needs. Edna is our one-woman welcoming committee and personal butler. This was her first week on the job, so please accept our apology if she forgot to explained the room situation to this guest.

“Alta Cebu - relaxation at its finest”

Wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first visit to Cebu . I was pleasntly surprised to find this oasis after driving through the city streets. The staff welcomed me with a very nice greeting and a welcome drink. The staff showed me to my room which was clean and bright with "feel good" art on the walls. The pool area and the bar is very clean and relaxing . The hotel offers several options to explore the area so you can do as much or as little as you want. The breakfast buffet was nice as well. I chose to mostly relax around the pool and get a few massages which was just what the doctor ordered . I will return and do highly suggest that you check this hotel out while in Cebu.

“Great Place fun fun”

I was completely satisfied with Alta. I had to arrive early and in the middle of the night. There was no problem and my room was ready even though I was early. Staff was great. Hotel was clean and kept that way through out my 18 day stay. I felt like I was part of a family rather than staying in a resort. Food was excellent and service was super. There were occasional slight miscommunications but they were always resolved. In all a wonderful experience for me. I would do it again. Lots of fun great breakfasts that were included in the package for free.

Make sure you take advantage of the Malls and sight seeing tours and island hopping

“My privet Paradise”

I’ve been there on two different occasions and I will definitely go back again. Had a few little issues with the rooms but Larry the owner more than compensated me for it with an upgraded room. Me and my girlfriend had a great time there. Memories we’ll never forget. The only bad thing, I hated to leave.
