The Best Western Cooper’s Mill hotel is located along the Cedar River in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Valley Nature Trail runs adjacent to the property providing an excellent recreation option for people of all fitness levels. Other recreational activities on property include our indoor pool, whirlpool and fitness facility complete with new equipment. For motorcycle enthusiasts, our property is rider-friendly with a wash station available.

“Poor location - not a good part of town”

Unfortunately, I was required to stay at this hotel while traveling for business. While the employees were reasonably pleasant and the room was clean, the overall condition of the hotel was very poor. It does not appear to have been updated in several years. The water pressure was very poor and the shower did not get hot, only tepidly warm. The bedding was uncomfortable and very cheap. The food available for room service was barely edible. Most importantly, it was in a very bad area of town and I did not feel safe.

Area recommendations

Stay only at the Marriott or Kirkwood hotels in this city. The rest are extremely outdated and cheap.

Dining

I highly recommend dining at Zins while in Cedar Rapids. It is a tapas (small plates) restaurant with a midwestern flair. All food is local. Food, service and staff were excellent!

“Dogs Welcome”

We stayed here while visiting friends on the way back from a hunting trip. There was a glitch withour room (double booked) but they fixed that promptly and welcomed us with our dog. It was a relief for us to stay in such a nice hotel that accepted pets.

“I'd stay there again”

We stayed there one night...I'd stay again. The only thing is the pool was a little small & they restaurant that is attached wasn't that great. Other than that it was great. Friendly staff and very clean rooms. I would say that they need to update the rooms a little....new TVs would be great.

“Do it yourself in a rough neighborhood”

I combined business with meeting family and went there for the location and the pool. By the time I finished smelling the constant musty and smoke odors even in my non-smoking room, begging for pool towels and repairing the broken toilet, I was less than thrilled. I mentioned the toilet to make sure there was a work order out for the part I had scavenged (from the room next door) upon checkout. The morning manager replied, "He shouldn't have let you do that." No offer of doscount. No appology for the inconvenience. Just a complaint that I had asked to fix the broken toilet rather than being without all night. I know this hotel is in the flood area from 2008 and I am sure the owners have tried to get it back into shape since. They haven't succeeded yet. Stay out on the northeast side. There are many decent properties over there.

Northeast quadrant seems to have the better properties.

“Great value”

Our stay was arranged at the last-minute and this hotel met all our needs. The staff was very helpful, the adjacent restaurant served a good breakfast at fair prices and the hotel was very clean and conveniently located to the interstate. One small complaint--the curtains hung over the air conditioning unit, so the air flow in the room was somewhat restricted. The neighborhood is somewhat industrial but safe. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, especially at the affordable room rates.

“Very comfortable”

We arrived in the morning and they our room all ready for us, which was perfect since we just wanted to relax for a bit. The lounge and restaurant is right at the hotel, so we didn't even have to leave to eat. The food was great, the staff at the restaurant not so much. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. We will revisit.

“Good value and convenient”

We've stayed here many times while visiting our son at nearby Coe College. It's very convenient to downtown, and has a good breakfast. Service is very friendly and the price is right.

“pizza in drawer, yuck”

One room had pizza in a drawer, the other had a stool that did not shut off. Do their housekeepers recieve any training or are they held accountable and check on
