“Very disappointed”
This hotel was NOTHING like Expedia's discription!! It is run down and out dated. I'm pretty sure the pictures that are on the website are from another hotel...The TV in my room didnt work and I could hear rodents throughout the night. The area where they serve the breakfast was absolutley discraceful. I only stayed 1 night out of the 3 that I was supposed to stay. I would have left the 1st night had I not gotten in so late. Very disappointed.
“What a DIVE!!!!”
We were in town for an Iowa football game. All other hotels were booked. If there was a list of hotels to stay at in Iowa City this would one would probably be second from the bottom, the bottom being a box down by the river.
“Not impressed”
The hotel was in disrepair and the room smelled like an air freshener that was used to cover some other smell. I will not stay there again.
“Only there because of the university”
Shower knob wouldn't turn. Faucet leaked. Smelled musty. Curtain wouldn't close all the way. TV station number wouldn't leave the screen. Expensive. Not enough pillows and they were very flat.
“Find another hotel”
it was very very old, curry smell on the entire first floor. We booked for non-smoking and ended up with a smoking room. Unless you're in a pickle for lodging - go down to the next 2 or 3 exits.
“Spend the extra money to stay elsewhere”
We thought we found a good deal with the amenities we wanted, but it was as they say: "Too good to be true." The hotel is located right off the 80 exit, which is nice. The front lobby is nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. That was about the end of the enjoyment. I don't personally get too worked up about older rooms, but we drove around to use door 3 and couldn't get in. A helpful fellow guest showed us the trick to the broken exterior door handle that you had to push in on the door, pull out on the handle and spin it twice to get the thing to open. It was apparent it has been that way for a while as there were remnants of tape all over the door and handle. We entered our room and there was a distinct odor present. I can't put my finger on the smell but it was a cross between mildew and rust. The curtains were broken and held in place at one point by duct tape. The sheets were obviously past there life span, threadbare and brownish. The TV was OK, although very old. The real problem was the bathroom. There was mold all over the ceiling, peeling paint hanging down, broken tiles, the tub had a hole repaired by caulk. The sink was not sitting properly in the cabinet and the lid to the toilet was missing an attachment. The mirror was chipped as well. The pool was great for our kids, but the hot tub had only 1.5 working jets. The breakfast was adequate. Overall we spend as little time as possible in the room and made the best of what we could.
“Terrible Hotel”
This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The fitness room was actually a separate gym that cost $7.50 a day for a pass. The room felt very unclean. The shower floor was dirty, and the shower could not be completely shut off, so it dripped water during the night. The toilet clogged every time it was used and because the seat was missing a part, it seemed to spray around the room. The room keys repeatedly went bad and had to be reprogrammed (and not because they were kept next to keys or credit cards - I was told that they kept forgetting that I was staying more than a single night). The breakfast was doughnuts, waffles and mini bagels - no healthy options at all. I would not return to this hotel, and I would definitely not recommend staying there.
“Exactly as I expected”
We stayed here while on a road trip to drop off our daughter at ISU. It is obviously an older hotel and smelled as such. The staff was super courteous. The room wasn't spotless but was generally clean. Pool was nice but not extravagent. Breakfast was sufficient (cereal, toast, donuts, fruit, juice, milk, coffee, waffles). The adjoining restaurant was awesome! All in all it was as i would have expected for an inexpensive hotel!!!

“renovation was very messy, excess carpet in hallway, old mattresses in hallway”
June 2011 With several modifications this could be a very nice hotel, it has a restaurant on the end of the hotel. At the time they are replacing carpet, mattresses looks like a complete make over. Our door lock on room was not secure, garbage was overly full and visually looked run-down.. Felt like your in a bad neighborhood. We stayed during a week night but they seem to have quit a few guests. Also, the cafeteria part was very small for the property
