"Classy hotel in prime location"
Loved our stay, classic old school hotel but renovated perfectly. Benefit of high ceiling, large room, spotless as to the room and bathroom. Bed was most comfortable. Rate was great for Valentine weekend, though courtyard view was nonexistent. If this is important, splurge on park view, but for us this wasn't an issue.

"OOOH, We Absolutely Love the Plaza!"
We just returned from 7 wonderful days in a spacious, luxurious suite at The Plaza. Check in was a breeze, we upgraded to the Edwardian Suite, which was worth every extra $, and when we arrived in our room a surprise was waiting for our daughter from Eloise herself! After reading critical reviews on line we were a bit hesitant but nothing was amiss and our stay could not have been better. Every staff member was kind and helpful. Martin Mariano, the food and beverage manager, personally escorted our 7 year old daughter to meet Mr. Hilary Knight, the creator of Eloise, during our tea at the Palm Court! Mr. Knight was kind enough to sign a copy of "Eloise at the Plaza" and speak to us for a few minutes. We also met the lovely and gracious Allison Williams, the legendary Bernadette Peters and the multi-talented Lena Dunham, whose documentary on Mr. Knight was the occasion for the event. What a fortuitous coincidence and a dream come true. The hotel arranged for a car service to and from the airport, a babysitter for our theater evening, and provided the hotel car to take us to nearby museums. A minor plumbing issue was immediately rectified and housekeeping was thoroughly consistent and immaculate. The food court was so tasty and convenient we ate there almost every day and the 24 hour room service was appreciated after our late night at the theater. Most importantly, the Manhattans and Champagne cocktails in the Rose Club were excellent!

"Incredible hotel on Central Park South"
Spent four nights during Spring Break at the Essex House. We love coming here. Perfectly located at the mid point of the park. Staff the entire trip was amazing from check in, bell, front door, housekeeping and really everyone we came across. The hotel itself was immaculate and love the art deco throughout. The rooms have been upgraded since the last time we were there and the one we had was a fantastic place to call home. Walk across to the park, short walk to Times Square and Theater District. It is near most everything you need, including subway stations. Our favorite hotel and worth every penny.

Where to stay in Central Park

Pocket Guide: Central Park, New York Historic Hotels

Buildings crane above one another to claim views of Central Park, a piece of real estate valued at more than $528 billion. Surprises abound in its 843 acres. The grounds include a castle, a zoo, several lakes, and an Egyptian obelisk. A city that never sleeps needs its quiet time, too: Central Park has six designated “quiet zones,” including Strawberry Fields, the monument to John Lennon.
