"Calming Experience"
I didn't want a Motel 6 experience. The pictures of Zen Yard on Expedia looked tranquil and classy. And that is how it turned out...calming, unique, thoughtful, trusting. I loved the Honor Bar, though I didn't use it this time. I was happy enough, sitting outside my zendo, under the full moon, in my jammies, surrounded by green growing things and a goddess statue. Breakfast was divine. Next time, I will stay longer and enjoy more.

"Not a 4-star hotel"
This hotel is older, and everything was funky-- couldn't figure out the AC for some time, shampoo and conditioner were in self-dispensers, and nearly out, had to ask the font desk for ice and beverages--no machines available. It is a 3 or 3 1/2 stars at most IMHO.

"Historical hotel at Downtown Phoenix"
The San Carlos is an historical work of art of early 20th century full of memorabilia. If you are willing to exchange some confort for the chance of been in a hunted hotel, this is for you. If you are traveling with family, forget it! The rooms are disined with 1928 style and space in mind, so they are little and the bathrooms are "complicated" to deal with (almost like airplane bathrooms). On the other hand, its location is perfect for convention travellers. It's in the middle of downtown and you can use the City Light Train to travel the city without rentiong a car.

"Older, well-located property being updated"
A record heat wave knocked out our home a/c, and we needed a place to evacuate to in a hurry. We were able to book a room on very short notice, and the staff was very helpful. The rates were more than reasonable, and the room was Spartan but a welcome relief. Good amenities - a speedy WiFi, small refrigerator, coffee maker - allowed us to continue with life as usual during a small-scale natural disaster.

"Close many things"
Good for nightly stays. Water in the shower had off temperatures and pillows/towels were too small.

"Nice bed and breakfast!"
This is the best b&b I have stayed at. The privacy, the breakfast in a basket, outdoor space and living space are are very comfortable. You have your own private entrance. You can choose to use the common areas if you want to socialize. My only comment is the location. We stayed Thursday through Sunday and there was quite a lot of traffic noise. The next door neighbor had two Harley's which were loud early every morning except Sunday. We did leave the patio door open, when closed, the noise level is less. I am not used to traffic, so please take that into consideration.
