At the center of town sits Memorial Fountain, honoring Civil War soldiers. Downtown is also home to the Mary Ritner House, where abolitionist John Brown briefly lived, and the Old Jail, believed to have been a stop on Underground Railroad. Each July, the town celebrates its rebirth after the 1864 Confederate Burning with ChamberFest and in autumn, the areas main crop is celebrated at AppleFest.
