This was a lastinute, out of season break chosen on price and location. The apartments were excellent value for money - and extremely quiet and peaceful.
Within a day of booking the owner, Stelios, had emailed to say hello, and to let us know the pool would be out of action for winter. Not a problem at all, but his communicating that information was an indication of how seriously he takes his job.
If you want luxury go elsewhere, but if you want good value, clean, tidy, well located, and friendly holiday apartments then your money would be well spent here.

My wife and I stayed at Smaragdi Rooms for two nights in early September 2014. We loved the location - right in the heart of Xania's old port. The owner, Georgia, was super friendly and very nice to us. The room was spacious and pleasant. The price was reasonable. I would stay at Smaragdi again next time I go to Xania.

The most enjoyable aspects of staying at this hotel were the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners (it's a family run hotel). They went out of their way to help us with a problem that arose with a hire car and provided all the information we needed to explore locally and more widely in Western Crete.
We stayed on a B&B basis. Good aspects of breakfast were hot food cooked to order, fresh yoghurt, fresh orange juice and ample fresh coffee.
The hotel is easily reached from Chania airport but a bit too far from the centre of Chania to walk in and so it's probably best to have a hire car. We used the hotel as a base for touring but the large, uncrowded swimming pool was excellent for relaxation and the views from our room balcony over Chania Bay and the mountains were lovely. There is some road noise during the day, as the hotel is just off a busy road, but we didn't find this a problem at all.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thought the hotel represented excellent value for money.

We had a great stay, the staff was excellent, allowed me to use the computer to print boarding passes for flights, thanks Sophia! Room was very comfy, great a/c, and tremendous view of the harbor. Right in the thick of things, yet quiet and cozy. Beaches are within walking distance, but nicer ones you would have to drive to, but we loved the local beach.

The restoration of this monastery into a hotel is amongst the most impressive I have seen. The location is superb and once you get the hang of Chania traffic the central car parking is a huge advantage.
Room cleanliness is super and the staff will organize anything for you. They are amongst the most the most helpful I have met.
To make the most of your stay trade up and book a suite.

We stayed in this hotel to be away from the crowds and noise of the waterfront, but were still a quick 30 minutes away by car. There are excellent local tavernas, and lots of places to walk around the mountains from this spot. The rooms were very clean and the hosts were very nice. Easy to do day trips to the beaches from here. Note that there is a fairly steep drive up the hillside to get here, but well worth it.

We spent part of our honeymoon at La Maison Ottomane and it was exquisite. It is hard to imagine a better place to stay in Chania. There are three rooms and a small courtyard: everything is carefully curated, luxurious, well designed and thought-out, but also unstuffy. The Ottoman theme is faithfully executed, but not at all cheesy or overbearing. We were upgraded to an enormous duplex suite because of some small maintenance work in the room we had originally reserved. However, the other room would have been amazing too. The location is just several blocks away from the Venetian harbor, but tucked away on a very quiet street. More than anything else, however, the proprietor and staff are incredibly attentive, detail oriented and accommodating. For example, on our last day, it was all a matter of course that we should have breakfast (fresh coffee, croissants, muffins, toast, yogurt, fruits, etc., and I'm sure we could have asked for anything else that we might have wanted) prepared and served to us at 4:30 am so that we could catch our flight back to Athens.... Highly highly recommended.
