“Slightly Disappointed”
PROS: The location is excellent--right in the center of everything!! Located within walking distance to everything in the downtown historic district! The staff recommended several great restaurants and things to do. CONS: Placemats on the dining table were dirty with visible food on them. Some of the paint, trimwork (undone in the full bath) and fixtures looked a little 'time worn'. The mattress was old and too soft. New bed linens would be a wise investment. We were unable to get additional pillows (the front desk said that they "didn't have any"). Construction had been going on (TKG holiday) and the ladders were tied across the stairwell, railing to railing. Plastic remained on the floors in the hallway to the rooms.
“Great location”
Enjoyed stay at Church Street Inn. Great location to walk, catch tours, or drive. Much to see.
“Church Street Inn, Festiva Hospitality Group”
We had a wonderful weekend. The location of this property can not be any better. We were given a room that was just remodeled and it was absolutely beautiful. We will definately consider returning to this property again.
“Prime Location”
There was construction going on throughout the hotel all day, everyday and we were not informed of this before our stay, and our room price did not reflect this inconvenience. We were also offered to take a tour of the hotel and as an incentive they would wave our $120 parking fee ($20 a day for 2 cars), but once we turned down this offer we were ignored by select staff members. None the less, the front desk staff, cleaning staff and valets were excellent and the location is in the heart of downtown, a short walk to most of the popular destinations.
“Location, location, location”
Right downtown Charleston, right on the market. Plenty to do and see. Hotel was very nice, cozy. It is undergoing renovations however, so sleeping in wasn't possible, it was quite noisy and they started at 8am with the pounding. Room was very nice, old style, we loved it. The bed was WONDERFUL! Would go again after I check on any ongoing renovation work! :(
“Totally Impressed”
We were completely impressed with the hotel. We had a newly renovated suite and it was really nice. It was great that we could cook breakfast every morning in the kitchen so we didn't have to rush out every morning. However, bring your own frying pan because the one supplied is very cheap. It was great having plates, silverware, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc. Bed slept very well and it was nice to have it upstairs so you didn't feel like you were living in "one room" for a week. Valet parking was a bit annoying because they were busy sometimes & it took awhile to get our car. We quickly learned to call down to the lobbey about 10 minutes before we were ready to go to request our car. Area was very nice and location was perfect. Could walk to everything except the beach, which we went twice. Water was surprisingly warm & people were nice. Would definitely stay here again in future visits. No real complaints here!
“Charleston anniversary”
The hotel was ungoing renovations which I was not told. Our room was very outdated, paint peeling off the wall, loose closet doors, nasty carpet, etc. The location was perfect. I felt that although the room was comfortable even with the needed repairs, the price I paid was way too expensive. I would return but not until all the renovations are completed.
“Beyond Our Expectations”
A Mother-Daughter Getaway can be a challenge. This hotel added to our ultimate fun rendez-vous. Two best friend 19 year olds -- on break from college -- joined their moms to enjoy gorgeous Charleston. The hotel provided enough space for everyone -- and having a kitchen was terrific to stack yogurts and juice for gals who needed to sleep in while the moms needed to walk and exercise. The location was perfect to enjoy fantastic restaurants, cool market stalls, and carriage and cycle rides throughout the city. The DVD player in the living area allowed us to gather, kicking back with our favorite films, to make new memories and relive old. The hotel gave us a chance to "hang" together after time at Folly Beach and strolls at local plantations. We were all incredibly surprised by how homey the hotel felt -- right down to a warm welcome back upon entry in the lobby. Great hotel for this type of travel! Only major negative with the hotel was the master bath toilet malfunction. It was repaired three times during our four day stay. It finally worked the last day. Fortunately, the half-bath on the floor below worked. Also, despite our "Service Needed" tag on our door, one day our room was missed for clean-up. The front desk quickly provided clean towels, however, upon our request.
“"Overrated/overpriced"”
- $20/night parking fee that was not told to us at the time of booking. - Black mold covered the walls and ceiling of the foyer behind the elevator; dust was all over the canopy in the foyer and the light fixture had broken plastic and just looked in ill repair. - Time share/points system 90 min lecture strongly encouraged by the concierge to offset cost of parking. - Concierge gave expired coupons and sent us (walking) to a restaurant that has been closed for 5 months now.
“Great location, staff, room design.”
The only real complaint was the musty smell. Prior reviews warned that he hotel is being refurbished and since we arrived very late (11:30 pm) the room was probably one of the unfinished ones. It wasn't nearly as bad as the room described in a prior review. The wall near the balcony door on the upstairs bedroom needed some repair as well. The room was clean, cleaning staff friendly. It is not a bad idea to have the bedroom upstairs from the living room (which has a pull out couch) and kitchen to facilitate privacy. Each level has a nice flat screen TV. The apt. was nicely done except for the unrepaired wall and musty (but tolerable) smell. The concierge was cheerful and helpful (she comes in the afternoon and stays till evening) and the desk clerk is helpful also (we asked him questions in the morning, before she got there). Parking is convenient but extra. Free WiFi in the lobby.
