“MKO from OH”

I thought this hotel was in a great location! Parking was easy. The only thing I would complain about is the restaurant......they only serve breakfast. I think they should serve lunch and dinner also.

“Courtyard not a Marriott”

Hotel was fine however houskeeping was not up to par. In fact they did our room and never left towels, had to call for them. If you go rent a car as the shuttle is 6.00 a day (cheap) but takes quite awhile to get to the hotel, we were left waiting an hour one morning. Worst of all once they drop you, you have to get another bus. Taxi are very expensive.

“Very nice”

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The only disappointment was the restaurant/lounge. They only served breakfast in the restaurant and the lounge was tiny and did not have many choices of liquor to choose from. The location is excellent. The view was beautiful. The pool was great but larger towels should be provided.

“An OK Hotel on a one way street with a nice view of the harbor”

Nice Hotel with nice views of the harbor but located on a one way street which made going the opposite way a hassle. Nothing out of the ordinary either good or bad; nice place but just ok.

Area recommendations
Downtown Charleston was a 10 min drive ....great atmosphere. Fort Sumter was an added bonus.

“Wait until maintenance is finished.”

I was initially put in a room on the floor where a majority of rooms in the corridor i was in were being refurbished. As 2 days went by the smoke from the workers cigarettes, paint fumes and the ongoing pile of rubbish that accumulated in the corridor made this floor disgusting. There were signs apologising for the update but i saw no signs of any staff members trying to control the mess, instead it just built up as more old furniture, fixtures, carpet etc came out of the other rooms. Also furniture was piled up and crispy cream donut cartons etc...life in a rubbish dump. On the plus note when I did point all this out the staff did put me in a new room, unfortunately 4 young basketball players were in the room above and the noise and vibrations from them clowning around does travel in this hotel. Overall I think some sound proofing is needed and the management needs to stop being greedy and acknowledge that some rooms should not be used while they are renovating.

Area recommendations
Downtown Charleston is beautiful and there is a Courtyard Marriott here also, so if you can, and Marriott is your choice I would stay at the Downtown one. This area is beautiful for strolling and eating.

“Beautiful hotel - very helpful staff”

This is a beautiful hotel right on the water. nice outdoor pool and room balcony overlooking river and pool. The staff at the front desk were extremely friendly, pleasant, and helpful. They gave us great ideas for sightseeing, restaurants, and travel info. Nice bar area with music and happy hour. Good restaurant with breakfast buffet. Beautiful patio by the pool to sit at night and watch boats on the water. We were extremely pleased with this hotel and would definitely recommend it.

Area recommendations
Take Charleston Strolls or Charleston Sole walking tour. Walk along the Battery to see the beautiful antebellum mansions. Then visit the Nathaniel Russet House, Calhoun Mansion (must see), and Edmonston-Alston House. Eat at "Coast" - super. Definitely go to Magnolia Plantation - walk through the gardens and take the train ride. We did not like Palmetto Carriage rides; they squeezed too many people in the carriage, you couldn't hear the guide, and they used donkeys. Try the carriage tour at Middleton Place or Classic Carriage Tours.

“satisfied in South Carolina”

Good location with access to getting to James Co park & Folly Beach as well as interstate highways. 15 mins from airport. No nearby shops to get drinking water, etc. but hotel provides some at a cost. Helpful staff. Enjoyed my stay. No negatives.

“Close to MUSC”

The hotel was very nice, clean & well decorated with excellent staff. I was, however, traveling alone and not familiar with the area so I wanted to be able to eat a good dinner at the hotel. That is my only complaint - the lack of an on-site restaurant. The Marriott website says 'restaurant onsite' but the hotel offers a breakfast buffet and a snack room where you can buy pre-packaged sandwiches, drinks, etc. Obviously I should have asked before making reservations. Parking in the covered spaces is difficult (but doable) - the spaces are narrow and the support columns make it harder to maneuver. But there is plenty of outside parking available.

“Location a problem”

The hotel is generally quite lovely and well-maintained. Staff is very helpful. Unfortunately, the center of town is difficult to walk to, should you wish not to take your car everywhere. The restaurant serves only breakfast, which is a bit of a drawback. As long as location is not a big issue, this is a fine place to stay.
