Would definitely stay again. Staff was exceptionally helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was continental with a few hot items and was perfect for a quick bite before going out the door. Conveniently located within 5 minute drive of Battery Park...and 5-10 minutes of historic area, the Market, Cruise ship dock area........very convenient without the high price of historic district.

Close to free tram transportation to historical .

Location: Tram
Air conditioner in room VERY noisy. Couldn't sleep with it on. Got warm at night without it. Maintenance man said it was normal! Good breakfast, good bed.

Cons: The housekeeping staff could be more attentive to leaving cups, coffee, etc. when these items have been depleted.
The front staff was extremely helpful with suggestions about tours, directions and transportation.

Nice clean hotel close to downtown Charleston.

Convenient location to downtown Charleston except my husband had tried finding a good place to smoke outside.

Pros: The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: The air conditioning in the room was very loud.
Location: Around the corner from the shuttle stop to the Historic District. Not too many restaurants nearby.
The hotel was clean and the room was comfortable. Staff was very helpful and friendly. However, it was located near a busy highway and traffic could be heard from the 8th floor. The location was good with a stop right around the corner for the shuttle to the Historic District. Breakfast was the usual fast-food type.

Lower rate for out of the way location

Pros: Price compared to historic district hotels.
Cons: Breakfast was not very good.
Location: Location is not great. Nothing in the neighbourhood.
Stayed here because rates for downtown/historic hotels were very high. OK hotel, but out of the way. So need to drive or take a cab. Near bridge, so lots of traffic and commercial neighbourhood. Definitely not quaint area.

Holiday Inn Express Charleston Dwtn - Ashley River

Pros: I liked that the hotel was just outside of the busy parts of Charleston but not too far away. Freeways are right next door so day trips are close.
Cons: Broken fixtures in bathrooms
Location: McDonalds and KFC are the only restaurants within walking distance of hotel. Freeway access however, makes it accessible to day trips and downtown.
Nice hotel with very helpful staff. Dinner options near hotel are few.

Damp Room, Terrible Mattress

Pros: Breakfast was good and included.
Cons: Dampness in room...get adequate air conditioning to fix this, new mattress, better lighting.
Location: Easy drive to lovely historic district of Charleston for restaurants, carriage tours, marketplace , waterfront, beautiful homes.
This hotel was billed as being in the historic district of Charleston, but was actually outside of this part of town. To be fair, it was an easy drive to get to the historic district, but you definitely could not walk to it as it was too far away. The room was dark with very poor lighting. the light switch by the door did not connect to anything as there was no light there at all!! The room was small and always seemed damp. King size mattress definitely needed replacing. The room was cleaned each day, but every day I had to call to the front desk for something missing from the bathroom....soap, wash clothes, bath mat, enough towels. I can understand missing something once, but we had bathroom items missing everyday. Hotel parking was free, and we had a permit to hang in the window. You would think that meant we would always have a spot to park, but on two or three occasions, the lot was full. When we asked what we were supposed to do, we were told to park away from the hotel at a local run down business parking lot. Breakfast was good. Skip this hotel. We saw many other options during our stay.

Nice but not great location

Pool deck needs painted a different color to avoid falls. Breakfast closed too early for Charleston. Pool nice.

Dirtiest place we ever stayed, staff was very rude

When we arrived they said they over booked and wanted to put four of us in in a room with one king bed. When we did get a room it was filthy, mold in the shower, dirt and trash between cabinet and refridgerator, old food in the refrigerator. It was terrible. But we were stuck so we cleaned it ourselves and moved on. When we reported it the staff didn't care and told us to take our complaint to Expedia because we booked through them. We would never recommend this hotel, and since the staff was so bad we question holiday inn all together.
