Lucia's Birthday GetawayPosted Sep 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
Very nice place to stay and a good value for the cost. Staff was attentive, a bit more than a continental breakfast, as advertised, sincewe could order from a menu and have it served at a select time and location on site. Parking at $12/nite was a bargain. Very close to art galleries, shops and great restaurants. Complimentary sherry or brandy every night. Nice porch to relax, talk with other guestas and people watch.

Excellent!Posted Sep 4, 2013
Location: It's located in downtown Charleston. Everything is pretty much in walking distance.
My family stayed here for 2 nights. True, it’s a little bit more expensive than other hotels, but I think it’s totally worth it. The whole place is very beautiful. We stayed in the cottage, so it’s very quiet as well. Everyone in the hotel is extremely friendly and very helpful when you need any help. The beds are great. This is probably the first time in my life that I don't need to worry about insomnia in the hotel. The complimentary breakfast is excellent! It is way beyond ordinary free breakfast in some chain hotel. You have to try it!

Great Experience!Posted Aug 26, 2013
Location: Great location. Everything is in walking distance. Close to the market street, the battery, and all of the history of Charleston.
We felt like we were coming home to our quaint cottage at the end of every day. Very peaceful. Enjoyed eating breakfast on the courtyard and the staff was very attentive. Good value for the price. Great location. Great Experience!

Perfect Setting to Explore Historic CharlestonPosted Aug 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
The John Rutledge was a perfect location to base our exploration of a perfectly charming historic city. But even better was the courteous, warm staff who helped plan our trip before we ever arrived. They made recommendations and arrangements at all the great restaurants - and does Charleston ever have some excellent ones. Plus, they took care of our every needs each day, from the fabulous breakfasts out in the courtyard, to the afternoon tea, and lovely accommodations. You won't be disappointed here.

Historic hotel close to a lot of interesting stuffPosted Aug 4, 2013
Pros: The concierges were a big plus, as were the breakfasts, sherry, brandy, etc. From the woman in charge to the men who served breakfast, all were tops.
Cons: Half and half with the coffee urn in the front hall would have been nice
Location: Lots of Revolutionary and Civil War history within walking distance or a short ride a way; lots of excellent restaurants.
Exellent location, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable rooms, everything infused with history

History, Location, CourtesyPosted Jul 25, 2013
Pros: Friendly staff, history, breakfast
Cons: Room could have been a little larger
Location: I was afraid this hotel was a little far from the cluster of other hotels, turned out to be in the perfect spot
This bed and breakfast in the historic John Rutledge house was peaceful and pleasant with plenty of charm. The location is exceptional, providing for an easy walk to the restaurants and shopping in the King St. and Market areas without being in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Additionally in the opposite direction is Battery Park and the wonderful historic houses towards the waterfront. I opted for the John Rutledge house because of the included breakfast that you can take in your room, the patio, or the ballroom and was not disappointed. They also offer nice evening refreshments in the ballroom including tea, lemonade, brandy, sherry, and fingerfoods. This turned out to be a nice pit stop between the site seeing and dinner out.

Wonderful B&BPosted Jul 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
My husband and I went to Charleston for our honeymoon and stayed at the John Rutledge house. We didn't know what to expect since it was our first time in a B&B, but left extremely happy with the quality of our stay. The breakfasts were always hot and delivered on time. The staff was always polite, helpful, and attentive. We would stay here again if we ever got to go back to Charleston. The only drawback was the slow WiFi, but in any building that is sharing a connection this is typical.
