Nice hotel, great location.

Posted Jun 26, 2014
We came to Charleston on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived at the hotel around three. There were four hotel employees standing at the entrance, not one offered to help us unload our luggage or find us a cart to put our belongings on. We found a cart and unpacked our things. While waiting for my boyfriend to park the car across the street ( YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR HOTEL PARKING! $12 a day.) I saw a nicer car than mine come up to the hotel and everyone ran over to help them! I may not have payed for a grand suite but I expect the same hospitality as everyone else in the hotel. Other than that our stay was good. Rooms clean but small. Bed was very comfortable. Great location. Pool was nice. I changed our days around to get a cheaper room, I would never pay $500 a night for the room we had. It's not worth that. I did however think $189 a night was a fair price.

Thank you for staying with us at the Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel and we greatly appreciate the feedback you have shared with us. I want you to know that we take your comments seriously and have addressed each item accordingly. Also, I can assure you that every guest is very important to us and treated in that way. We spend a tremendous amount of time and efforts in training our staff on how to handle issues resulting in a positive guest experience. It is therefore very disheartening when we fail to satisfy our guests as we did in your case. Our goal is to satisfy every guest and exceed their expectations. We hope to regain your trust and hope that will you choose to stay with us again. Thank you again for sharing your feedback. Warm regards, John

Excellent location..between King & Meeting Streets

Posted Jun 2, 2014
Pros: The shower was great, the complimentary lobby evening hord'oerves was a great "touch", and the location was excellent.
Cons: Breakfast..all guests should get the same, if its included with the room. I also think the rate was too high, for the accommodations.
Location: Fabulous shopping, Phenomenal restaurants and great sightseeing by the river.
This is an older quaint hotel that has been refurbished. It is in a convenient location to all things historic. The staff was minimal. Only one bellman and one guest services representative was ever present. On occasion, I did see a person working the concierge desk. Breakfast was included with our stay, however, I wasn't told it included only the continental breakfast. The wait staff seemed confused about which guests get what breakfast, since the full breakfast and continental breakfast was being served in the same room. Overall the room was nice, beds were comfortable and the shower was relaxing.

Perfect Location, Good (but not Great) Experience

Posted May 20, 2014
The hotel is perfectly located in downtown Charleston's historic district, with easy walking to restaurants, shops, and attractions. The hotel was in good condition, and the staff were pleasant. My dissatisfaction stems from three factors: you have to pay extra for wireless in your room (it is available for free in the lobby); the rooms were small; and I could hear my neighbors on either side of me (they weren't loud and my sleep was never disrupted, but I could certainly hear them when I was awake). Overall, this was a good, but not a great, hotel experience.

Great location but not $600/ night nice!

Posted May 4, 2014
Hotel interior is attractive-- in a commercial sort of way. You just know that every Rennaissnce by Marriott is the same. No effort to make this distinctive to Charleston. Lobby and bar and restaurant were freezing cold-- every day, all day. Made it unpleasant to be there. Furnishings in lobby clearly shouted "don 't sit here, just for show.." Our room had windows permanently closed so no fresh air. Bathrooms were clean but outdated with no walk-In shower , no fan, one hook. For $600 a night we expected more. Staff was excellent: helpful, personable, always friendly.

For the hotel's worst room, we paid $550/night.

Pros: Only the smiles on the employees faces. But I bet they've never stayed here.
Cons: THE ROOMS!
Location: Google Charleston. A gorgeous city, just don't stay here.
Not that Charleston has a Four Seasons, but this was rated 4 stars on Expedia, and BOY DO NOT BE FOOLED. My girlfriend wouldn't even take her socks off because she was afraid of what might be on the floor. Furthermore, for $550.night for the worst type/smallest room, it was SO NOT WORTH IT. We could have stayed at the Plaza in Manhattan for the same amount of money. We had a good service experience, you can't blame the people that work there. This is ALL corporate or management deciding not to put any Capex (capital expenditure) into remodeling this overrated Red Roof Inn. GROSS.

Just OK

Posted Apr 18, 2014
Pros: Staff was very helpful.
Cons: Free Wi-Fi would be nice; Bathrooms need to be improved.
Location: Downtown Charleston and a great location
I expect more from a Marriott. Had to pay for parking (and expected to) - parking places were tiny; no free internet in room - use lobby internet or buy package; no morning coffee in lobby; no free breakfast.

Good city Location

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: The staff was very welcoming and accommodating, especially the concierge!
Cons: The suite had very uncomfortable beds. (murphy bed) The bathroom did not have enough counter space and no mirror in the dressing area.
Location: The location was excellent and we could walk to many of our destinations and there were lovely restaurants near by.
The food and service were very good. The location was excellent. The hotel was clean and neat..maid service was wonderful.
