Nice hotel close to everythingPosted Nov 12, 2014
Pros: Older, great location, staff
Cons: Room are a little dated
Location: Walking distance to most everything or take one of the bike cycle transports.
We had a very nice stay.. The hotel is older, lots of history, perfect location. The staff couldn't be better from front desk to maintenance, concierge, bellman.

Met with 3 other childhood classmates to celebrate our 70 the birthdays. The rooms were wonderful and comfortable. Views were beautuful. From the time we arrived to helping to arrange our departure, the front desk staff was very helpful. One of the best evening meals we had was right there in the hotel restaurant. We were completely satisfied! If (when) I return to Charleston, I will stay there again.

Excellent locationPosted Nov 2, 2014
Pros: Location; beautiful lobby; historical value.
Cons: Room safe.
Location: Nathaniel Russell House; the Battery; City Market; Meeting Street mansions; Rainbow Row; Paolo's Gelato; The Bakehouse; Hominy Grill Restaurant.
The hotel is located in the heart of the historic district. It is within walking distance to most tourist spots, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The lobby is beautiful and the staff friendly. The deluxe double room we had was comfortable, but nothing special. The bathroom was definitely on the small side, and it took several minutes every evening for the water to get hot in the shower. The room also lacked a safe. Parking was a bit expensive at $16/night in the garage next door, although that seems to be the going rate in the area. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and I would recommend the hotel to other visitors.

Discovering CharlestonPosted Nov 2, 2014
Pros: This was a beautiful old hotel in the downtown district that had been really kept up. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Cons: The parking could have been better.
Location: We took a tour of Fort Sumter, visited the big market, and took a carriage ride. There are a lot of nice stores there as well.
We had a very enjoyable visit. We were close to downtown shopping. The people at the front desk were very helpful in helping us get to the attractions we wanted to visit.

Grand DuchessPosted Nov 1, 2014
Pros: Its history and its location.
Cons: Nothing I can think of; I didn't encounter anything I didn't like.
Location: It's on historic King Street - shopping to the right and restaurants to the left. The university is nearby. Taxi service right at the front door.
I liked my stay at the Francis Marion Hotel. It's a grand old hotel but a bit of an aging dowager. Don't expect sleek glass and chrome and high energy! The lobby is very pretty and the room I had was spacious. Funny story - I selected the hotel for its location and its historic aspect, made reservations for two rooms and had my brother reserve two other rooms (there were 7 people in our group). Everyone got a fabulous view but me, proving that no good deed shall go unpunished.

Location: Attention to detail
We decided to stay here because my husband and his dad stayed overnight in 1961 just prior to his entering the Citadel ... We had a Deluxe room... 3 night stay. First two Night's we smelled something 'weird'... Finally figured out that it was mold/ mildew in the bathtub! No excuse.. At 300+ a night.. The tub and shower curtain should be the last things requiring attention.

Noisy hotelPosted Oct 18, 2014
Hotel was very noisy with lots of street noise. Room was larger however the bathroom was size of closet, you could sit on the toilet and brush teeth at same time....incredibly small and obviously in need of renovation!! Hotel staff especially front desk were fabulous and extremely helpful however I would still not recommend for a stay in Charleston!!

Awesome experience. Clean, courteous, helpful staff. Fabulous restaurant with excellent menu choices. Don't miss the Shrimp and Grits for dinner and the pecan pancakes next morning! We are definitely returning.
