Great location. Great staff

Beautiful hotel in historic district. Perfect location to walk the downtown area. When we arrived, it looked like our basic room did not have a fridge, but housekeeping/maintenance quickly brought one to us! Great stay

The Francis Marion Suite had a lot of space and you could look out over Marion Square. Many of the attractions are within walking distance from the hotel.

Beautiful hotel, walking distance to downtown.

Would recommend hotel. Lobby is beautiful and rooms are very comfortable. Was worried about bathrooms as others complained about being small but ours was fine with standing tile shower. Everything within walking distance.

Great suite

Posted Dec 2, 2014
We got the suite because of traveling with our 1 year old. The extra space was great compared to standard room. Very small bathroom. First night our heating in one room was not working but it was fixed right after we called. Great location - close to everything! Starbucks in lobby was nice too.

In the middle of history

Posted Dec 1, 2014
Pros: The representation of the era in which it was built.
Cons: The restaurant left much to be desired.
Location: It was in the middle of most all of the historical things that Charleston is known for. Public transportation was free within this area.
Despite the rain we enjoyed our stay in Charleston mainly due to the Francis Marion Hotel. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. They were helpful and answered all our questions.

Great hotel

Posted Nov 26, 2014
Pros: Old time feel and central location to historic area and shopping.
Cons: None
Location: Lots of shopping and great restaurants. Hall's chop house is great (little on the pricey side but well worth it). Minero's and Magnolias also great.
Very friendly staff gave great suggestions for things to do while visiting Charleston. Room was clean and up to date while maintaining a classic design and old time feel.

Location, location, location!

Posted Nov 18, 2014
Pros: Staff was most helpful, knowledgeable and eager to please.
Location: Excellent location -- amidst plenty of shopping and dining.
After taking great care in planning our first visit to Charleston, S.C., we booked with the Francis Marion. We found the historic district location to be an excellent choice and within walking distance of most attractions/ restaurants. Take a good pair of walking shoes and forget about taking your car out of the garage, especially if there is the promise of free parking, as we never found it. The parking situation for the hotel should be noted. It's two doors down in a cramped, dingy space @$16 a day - which adds up. We were told the hotel 'key' would serve as in/out privileges, but learned that was not the case at the attendant booth. The Francis Marion is in the middle of King Street amidst plenty of shopping (clothes, jewelry and furniture) and dining. There were notable restaurants directly on King Street -- Hall's Chophouse namely, just a few blocks from this location. There were King's Cookies, wine bars and cozy settings all along this street as well. Select this hotel if you're looking for Charleston charm with no modern amenities. The bathroom is small with zero counter space for toiletries. The bed and pillows are comfortable. Moderate street noise. The staff was eager to please and great with recommendations. We enjoyed ourselves, but would elect for another hotel in the future. Meeting Street is another notable location.
