Hotel is in a great location for walking/dining.

Pros: Loved the free wi-fi.
Cons: Bathroom was extremely small. A mini frige and/or microwave would have been great (without an added fee).
Location: Location. Close to many restaurants and shops.
Great hotel staff. Didn't like the location of our room, but it was booked to capacity.

Historic charm

Very inviting. The only issue was the bathroom was small but that is to be expected in such an old building. It was very clean and bed was comfortable and the location is great.

Beautiful historic hotel in great location

Beautiful hotel in historic Charleston. Close to lower King Street and the city market but also close to upper king street which is being revitalized and where our food tour it was. Beds were comfy. Coffee in the rooms and complimentary water bottles which wa great as it was hot! Our room was fun and quirky as it had 2 doubles and 2 bathrooms as it used to be 2 tiny rooms (1008). Was great for 2 women. Would stay there again. Beautiful lobby too!!!

Nice historic hotel--good location

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: Ambiance and location.
Cons: More attention to detail in cleanliness of rooms and placement of at least two chairs in each room.
Location: Marion Park across the street was very nice. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby and free trolley stop across the street.
For an old hotel, this was nice enough. Minuses: Self-parking in their garage was very inconvenient as there didn't seem to be a direct, covered connection to the hotel. We had to go onto the street and up steps to enter the hotel. Valet parking was difficult as there were only a few parallel parking spaces on the busy and crowded street to unload or load luggage. Our room was small and had only one chair, a desk chair, which made for an uncomfortable stay in the room. The bathroom floor had apparently not been washed and had obvious dirt from previous visitors. Pluses: Other than those detractions, our stay was good. The hotel is a beautiful old hotel that has been recently restored. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room had comfortable amenities. Overall, I would probably return to the hotel because of its beauty and location.

Grand Southern Hotel

Posted Aug 31, 2014
Pros: The staff and ambience. Nicely done, but not over done.
Cons: Toilets were prone to stopping, but did not overflow. A call to the front desk and help arrived very quickly.
Location: Near historical sites, great restaurants and shopping. Best location in town.
Very well done renovation. Hotel Staff was beyond compare. Helpful, informative and funny! We will return. The restaurant was closed for renovation, but we were directed to World Class restaurants. Three outstanding dinner venues within a 5 minute walk...even if you walk slow!

Cons: Speed of elevators.
I stayed here for a special plantation wedding. The rooms are very nice, customer service great including concierge. Only issue is very slow elevators.
