The Governor's House Inn.....priceless !

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Location....beautiful rooms....delicious breakfast and teas. Superb staff that were helpful and informative.
Cons: We were in Room 7 and we could not get the room comfortable to sleep. We had to open the windows.
Location: Perfect location!!!!
We loved our weekend at the Governor's House Inn. The rooms are beautiful and well appointed and the breakfasts served are delicious and served with kind, informative, and helpful staff. Everyone that stayed there was so congenial at tea time and breakfast. Sherry is available after you return from your dinner and I would and will highly recommend everyone staying here when they travel to Charleston!! Paul and his staff are A+.

Southern hospitality in a beautiful setting!

Posted Feb 22, 2015
Pros: The Governors Inn is beautifully furnished. The food was all homemade and very wonderfully prepared. The host staff was warm and attentive.
Cons: I cannot think of one thing. All top notch!
Location: We enjoyed the walking tour and walking throughout the city ourselves. Our walking tour guide was wonderful, a recommendation from the hotel staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Governor's House Inn. We were met with wonderful southern hospitality from the moment that we arrived. Our room was lovely with time period furnishings and a balcony where if the weather were warmer we would have enjoyed sitting with a cup of coffee. We always appreciate a nice shower and top quality towels of which we had! The afternoon tea was spectacular with a caramel pound cake, tasty sweets and hors d'ouevres along with wine-a nice way to relax and enjoy the lovely dining room and meet other guests. Our breakfast was the best with a frittata-all of the food homemade and carefully prepared. Thank you for the recipes Governor Inn! We also appreciate the ideas and helpful suggestions of the hospitality team. It is obvious that those who work here love the place and what they are doing. This was a wonderful experience for a couple who are from the state of Washington. We had a 5 star experience!!

An amazing experience; didn't want to leave!

Posted Jan 12, 2015
Pros: The room was very comfortable, well furnished, and private. The hotel was located within walking distance of everything in downtown Charleston.
Checking in, we met with Brian who couldn't wait to give us a tour of the house and share some amazing stories and information of the house and Charleston as a whole. Every morning we would venture to the dining room for a delicious home-made breakfast. Every afternoon was tea, and every evening was a glass of Sherry in the study. If we needed anything, the staff was steps away and more than willing to accommodate us.

Fantastic Stay

Posted Jan 3, 2015
My husband and I had a terrific stay at the Governor's House. We loved the location- walking distance to all the sights of historic Charleston, but not at the crowded, busy part. The inn was beautiful and maintained perfectly. The staff was all friendly and very accommodating. Breakfasts were superb- eggs Benedict one morning and Bananas Foster French toast the next day along with wine, tea and goodies in the afternoon. Can't wait to go back!!

Excellent inn situated in historic district

Posted Oct 16, 2014
Pros: All as above, handy parking in the grounds of the inn. Lovely interior, like walking back in history.
Cons: All good
Location: Located on Broad Street a short distance from Market Street and Meeting Street in the historic district and within walking distance of Rainbow Row.
On arrival we were greeted with an offer of Wine and afternoon tea. This stay showed Southern hospitality at its best, nothing was too much trouble. There are several different room types according to individual taste. The inn serves home cooked breakfasts differing every morning but will also accommodate individual requirements to suit. Very well equipped bathroom with whirlpool and really comfy bed. I would not hesitate to recommend this inn.

lovely inn in a perfect location

Posted Jul 17, 2013
we stayed at the Governor's house inn for our very first trip to Charleston. It was a great experience. The staff is extremely kind and hospitable. Very much enjoyed the complimentary ice tea and cocktail hour of wine and nibbles. The breakfast was excellent. We brought our own bikes to explore the town. They had bikes of their own but they were being refurbished so we were happy we brought our own. Only two cautions. If you are allergic to cats, you should know they have a very sweet old and friendly cat named New..and our only disappointment was with the shower... they really need to install a flow regulator. Not everyone enjoys fire hose type pressure.. my husband said he felt like a protester being sprayed... and this caused the drain to not be able to keep up. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Grandeur maintained

Posted May 16, 2013
Pros: The private verandah, the green of the garden and inn cat
Cons: Breakfast was disappointing by the standards of other inns we stayed in in the region.
Location: Excellent An easy walk to good restaurants ,snack bars and the mos note resting historically significant part of town
A wonderful spacious suite with its own insect proofed outside sitting area was all that we could have asked for. The main house is a listed building furnished in a sympathetic period style that wors well. The main verandah was a pleasant place to sit for a very good afternoon tea (and generous glass of wine). Another nice touch was the decanter full of pretty reasonabl sherry that was always accessible. With good parking an within easy walking distance of the centre of town this was a good base for the first to tourist in town.
