Good Location

Posted Oct 23, 2014
Pros: Location and beach/pier view
Cons: Maid service and male staff
Location: Best meals and service occurred across the street at Rita's
The best part about the Tides is its location. It is right on the beach which is the only option on Folly Beach unless renting a house or condo. It is a close walk to multiple dining options which if you are just wanting to park the car and not get back in it until time to leave is very nice. The downfalls were maid service and staff friendliness. The maid service did well at bed making but that was about it. We either never got coffee refilled or we got coffee but no condiments and had to clean out old filter and pot before could use again the next morning. We also ran into a dirty towel here and there that doesn't sit well with me. I typically don't mind tipping maid service but didn't happen this go around. I also feel that all hotel employees, especially management, should recognize and speak to guests which wasn't the case here. The only employees that are memorable as appreciative of our business were the females at the check in counter, the males not so much. The bar advertised "happy hour" from 4-7 but charged full price until reminding them it was happy hour. The tenders at the hotel as well as a few local bar/restaurants made it apparent it was beginning the off season as they weren't the friendliest ESPECIALLY at the crab shack (very rude and unappreciative female bartender). The hotel could use some room updating but pros outweigh the cons so would stay here again.

Pros: Location, view and overall friendliness and helpfulness of staff.
Location: Location was perfect for us. Close to College of Charleston where our granddaughter is a grad student and also being right on the beach was great.
Excellent experience. Could not have asked for better service.

Needs some work

The lobby needs a good cleaning. Also, the bathrooms in the restaurant and pool area were out of order.

Loved the firepits. Staff was excellent. Perfect view of ocean. Breakfast buffet was d-lish. Very comfy bed. Wish room had microwave. Maid failed to leave soap & shampoo 2 days. Balcony needs chairs.
