“Will stay again next time I'm in Charleston.... Really Nice!!!!”

The location was right off the Interstate so it was easy to locate. The Hotel was extremely clean and the staff was very friendly.

“Will definitely stay there again!”

Really enjoyed staying at the Wingate Hotel. Room was very nice and everything seemed clean and updated. Also appreciated the variety at breakfast. Plan to stay with them again.

“Friendly staff”

Every day we returned to the room, looked the first time we saw it, excellent cleaning staff. Check-in personnel were friendly. Loved the warm cookies we got at the check-out counter one night. Breakfast side meat changed daily. Loved having biscuits and gravy daily. Would recommend it to anyone and will stay there should we return to the area.

“On College Campus (no bar)”

The facility, staff and rates were excellent. However, if you like to have a beer while watching a football game at the hotel bar... sorry, no hotel bar. If you don't drink or dont care if teh hotel has a bar this is the place for you. I just wish they had said something about not having a bar in their advertisments.

“Almost perfect”

Fine accommodations for the price. Conditions were like new. The single staff person worked patiently and very hard despite checking in guests, making reservations over the phone and answering questions simultaneously. The breakfast, though ample, was a bit lower in quality that the Country Inn & Suites I stayed in the night before. These are minor criticisms, but are the details that make a difference to those who stay regularly in this class of competing hotels during decision-making. Therefore the lean staff gets A-plus and the management an A-minus.

“A great hotel for the price.”

The Wingate was clean and tastefully decorated. It's not plush but it's certainly an upgrade from the Comfort Inn or similar hotels. The room was spacious. The breakfast (included in the price) had eggs, sausage, biscuits, juice, etc. There was a nice pool. The weight room was underwhelming with some basic cardio equipment and one weight machine. All in all, I'd say this is a cut above the standard while maintaining an economic price.

“Great for our needs”

Staff extremely helpful and friendly, room clean and comfortable, scrambled eggs, waffles, and sausage for breakfast was a surprise, good location for attending Performing Arts Center activities (we came for Jazz Fest 2011), a bit of a drive for downtown (approx. 16 miles), but not a tremendous inconvenience, easy in and out, close to interstate but could not here traffic even while outside. Will stay here again.

Area recommendations

Market area has great seafood restaurants, shopping, aquarium was fun, historic district, sailing the bay.

When to go

Summer is too hot, families with small children and strollers are everywhere, fall is better: everything is open, less crowded, few if any children, easier and better service in restaurants, not as hot or humid, hotels tend to be less expensive.

“A welcome relief after a long drive!”

More than I had hoped. Very clean and comfortable. The lady at the front desk was very nice with information about the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.
