“I'm Embarrassed FOR Microtel”
I have traveled for work for more years than I want to admit and have stayed in many Microtels. When traveling for pleasure now, I will actually even seek out a Microtel and have even recommended them to others. That is one reason I was so horrified to stay at the Sugar Creek Road Microtel in Charlotte. First off, it was VERY hard to get in and out of the hotel driveway. Inside was beyond old and outdated, in its furnishings, services, and feel. Although the front desk hostess/maid was VERY pleasant and helpful, after seeing just the lobby, I almost walked out. The rooms were not like ANY Microtel I've ever stayed in and was embarrassed that I have four friends with me after I had praised the chain so much. The room felt like a reject from the 1960s. Additionally, there was no iron, ironing board, blowdryer, or laundry bags. Even the soap crumbled and disintegrated during its first use. The ONLY plus were the beds (very comfortable). My sleep was great until the next morning when the cleaning staff walked in WITHOUT knocking or announcing themselves....WHILE I was dressing!! This was at 9:00 AM, WELL before we were to check out. I notified the front desk hostess who was also a member of the maid staff. She merely stated that some of the staff were new. Funny, I would have thought knocking and/or announcing oneself would have been common sense. I will NEVER go back to this hotel nor would I ever recommend it...not even for one quick night of sleep ("crashing").
