Previously had good experiences, not anymore

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: I have enjoyed wonderful customer service and accommodations in the past. The decor is very nice, rooms comfortable, food quite unique and good.
Cons: Room maintenance and service to customers when room is not up to par.
Location: Great downtown location for business meetings, tourist attractions and restaurants. Even as a single female I feel confident walking at night.
I have stayed at the Dunhill on several occasions. The trip prior to the one this review pertains to was during a remodeling phase and the disturbance of furniture being moved in and out of the lobby and painting being done was tolerable given the expectation of a newly remodeled facility for my next visit. Unfortunately, The night of my arrival I was given a corner room that I can only assume was used as a last resort on nights when the hotel was full. I had never been put in such a small, dreary, and poorly maintained room previously. As it was dinner time when I checked in and I had plans to keep I just accepted the room and made note see if I might be switched in the morning. My choice was unfortunate. About 11:30pm as I was trying to fall asleep, I started hearing a drip, drip, drip, and then a trickle emanating from the bathroom. Upon inspection, the ceiling vent above the tub was leaking into the tub. This was, from the looks of the vent and the obvious insufficient repair jobs that had been tried, not a new issue. I took pictures and a video of the problem to show the desk personnel in the morning. The staff did move me to a different room in the morning. However, there was no real apology for my inconvenience and certainly no offer of recompense of any type. That evening as I sat chatting at the lobby bar, I found through conversation with the bartender and the hotel manager that they were fully aware of the leaking room but had already put a new guest in there.

Dear Katnipkel, I'm sorry that our efforts to address the challenges you had during your most recent stay fell short of meeting your expectations. We take all guest concerns seriously—especially concerns of leaks. After you made us aware of your concern, Engineering checked the room and determined that the condensation around the vent was created by a prolonged hot shower. I regret that this negatively impacted your stay. I'm also sorry that you feel that your troubles were not properly acknowledged by any of our associates through an apology. Given your previous positive experiences, I hope you will consider your most recent stay an anomaly and give us an opportunity to remind you of the great experiences you have had with us the next time you come to Charlotte.

Nice, small boutique style hotel

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Staff was very courteous and helpful. Parking was very easy, nice little extras like free water in the in room refrigerator...they even replaced what we drank during our stay. Restaurant food could have been a little better, food was kind of bland and not very tasty. Overall a nice place to stay, would stay there again.

Really cool hotel in a great location. Close to restaurants and bars. Rooms and bathroom very small but it is a boutique hotel. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Couldn't give it 5 stars cause we did not sleep well at all because room was so hot and a/c would not come on. Great complimentary breakfast!!!

Local charm

Had a surprise stop over in Charlotte due to flight cancellations. All the hotels were filling up fast so I ended up choosing the Dunhill on a whim. I am so glad I did. It was a wonderful hotel with loads of charm. Beats the faceless chain hotels any day.

Nice location but over charged

Posted Feb 17, 2015
The hotel is in a nice location for walking distance to many uptown locations. Checkin was easy. We had problems with the tv in the room and after waiting 30 minutes for someone to come we were told that this was a known problem throughout the hotel that has been on going. When spending this amount of money per night and being told "it was a known problem that has been on going" I would have expected a better response or for Dunhill management to have already addressed the issue.

Dear Chad, Thank you for your review. We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time in Uptown Charlotte. I sincerely apologize for the issues with the television, which was caused by an area Time Warner Cable outage. The technician was able to fix everything, so the next time you join us you'll have every channel at your fingertips.
