Close but lacking

Pros: Walking distance to UVA - but theres a public parking garage behind the hotel so I could have stayed somewhere nicer, drove to the garage and still be
Cons: Room decor, AC units control, plumbing fixtures, TV, ...
Booked because was close to UVA and reviews were mixed. Hotel is definitely in need of major renovations. Heating/AC could not be controlled from room?! Bathroom was typical of motel quality. TV was analog signal only and local stations were fuzzy. Definitely a 2 star hotel.

Pros: Location
Cons: The phone in my room malfunctioned
Location: U.Va.
I wanted to spend three days in Charlottesville to attend lectures at U.Va. The Cavalier Inn was in a perfect location; I barely moved my car once I got to Charlottesville. The Inn let me leave my car on their lot after I checked out.

O.K. Value For the price / close to UVA

Check-in was fast. Parking lot close to rooms and well lit at night. Room was old, worn, but clean. Mattress was fine but sheets threadbare. A/C noisy - right over one of the beds (bring ear plugs if light sleeper!). Standard motel breakfast fare with fruit, self serve waffle-maker, etc.

Nice hotel close to UVA

Perfect for a quick stay if you're coming down to visit UVA. Right across the street from campus, it was super easy to walk to the rotunda and bars at UVA. Friendly staff for quick and easy check-in and out. Only problem was the shower was dripping through the stay.

Convenient location, but not much else

Great location to get to main grounds and north grounds; walkable from hotel. However, the heating, ventilation and cooling didn't work, and the main desk could not provide blankets. Some staff smoked and smoke drifted into nonsmoking rooms. For the price, I expected a nicer experience. But what a good location!

A good value

Pros: Location, Breakfast. Staff all good. Close to the school if that is your reason for being in Charlottesville. Cleanliness was very good.
Spent Thursday through Sunday here. Easy check in and check out. Room was spotless everyday. Breakfast decent for the price of stay. Internet spotty in room but generally OK. Was a quiet weekend with spring break for the college kids not sure during the time when school is in session. Great location IMHO

Too hot

Pros: The location
Cons: To be able to have a cooler room for sleep.
Location: Perfect for UVA
The room is fine, up to a point. The main problem was the room was too warm to sleep in and it was impossible to turn the heat down. Reception staff said there was no heat on. We moved for the second night and it was better, although cooler still would have been preferable. The breakfast was pretty basic. Perhaps less choices but better quality would have been an idea. The location is good, very central.

Not worth the money

We had to go outside from the lobby to get to our room on a cold winter day. The room was small and the counter by the sink was falling apart. The heat didn't work and we were told there was only a "hot" or "cold" setting. Even when staff came to look at it, they couldn't get it to work and the best they could do was bring us more blankets. We left and went to another hotel in town that was only 10-20$ more per night but SO much nicer and well worth it.
