would not recommend this hotel .

Pros: The valet gentlemen were the best part of our stay ..They were very accommodating . They were quick to offer directions and very pleasant.
Cons: The size of the rooms could be larger and the small rooms should be less expensive than larger rooms .. .
Location: Boating Walking along the River Front . paddle boarding on the river , The Aquarium . and the Chattanooga Lookouts baseball stadium all near.
We arrived at 1pm with check-in at 3pm. We asked if we could check in earlier and were told we could ..We then asked for a room on the 1st floor.to which we were told we would have to wait till 3 but could not be assured of a room on the first floor. So we opted to go ahead and check in .She proceeded to look for a clean room . The room we were given was extremely small .No room to pass between the foot of the bed and the bathroom door while open ..The room might have been suitable for a single person who was spending no time at all in the room .To add to our discomfort , the head of the bed was along the wall of the elevator shaft . My advice is to complain upon being dissatisfied. We did not .One plus was that this hotel was on the historic registry and the lobby was very impressive.. The area downtown was very close to the Aquarium , the river ,and the AT&T Lookout Baseball Stadium. Some night life was close by too..

Terrible for money

Pros: Location is grat, it is downtown, and it is closed to everything!
Cons: They need renovate the hotel very bad!
It lookes great in lobby but room was terrible, carpet was warn off to the cement floor. Bathroom was not clean, hair on the wall, dirty towel was hang on bath tub curtains, wallpaper completelly came out from wall. I really disappointed of the room. I believe for $180 per night I should get better room. Also, when I booked the hotel I mentioned that I am traveling with little kid and I was told that crib is available upon request, but when I called guest service they told me they just gave the last one to someone, the did not offer anything else. At the price I paid I expected the free breakfast (I should check it when I booked the hotel and it kind of my fault that I did not do it), I was naive when I asked this at front desk, there is a $12 per person, not bad. Could be worse. Overall my experience staying in the hotel is not great, I would not reccomend it to anyone!

Nice hotel in downtown

Pros: Location was very good. Beautiful lobby.
Cons: Poor lighting in the rooms.
Location: The hotel is downtown. Close to many restaurants. The aquarium is not too far away. A short drive takes you to the bluff and arts area.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The location is convenient to downtown.

Pros: Location and historic value
Location: Us tomes service
At first glance the Read House seemed like an upscale historic hotel and was very clean. Until I got in the room and our toilet was broken and flooded the floor when flushed and the AC did not work in the room. I was willing to overlook this and just notify the front desk so they could look into the issue for the sake of future guests. The only response I got from the employee was a shrug of her shoulders. Maybe it was an isolated event, but based on my experience I would not return.

Pet Friendly

Pros: The staff, location, pet friendly.
Cons: Everything cosmetic needs to be redone and or cleaned thoroughly.
Location: We just pass through.
We've been staying here 1 - 2 times a year for about 5 years as we travel to and from Florida with our small dog. Sadly the conditions of the hotel have been going down hill and we have stayed at at the other nice, pet friendly near by, but they no longer accept pets. Staying here is still better than other pet friendly hotels directly off the interstate, but I will definitely try to find something else next time. It's time for a major facelift. The hallways are dirty from the carpet to the wall paper peeling off the walls, and the same for the rooms. Old dirt. We had room service at 10 pm when we arrived. Food was good however it was a challenge to order since the menu had changed but new menus were not in the room. Really? Was I the very first person to order room service with new menu in the restaurant? EACH OF THE STAFF MEMBERS WE DEALT WITH WERE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

Nice location. Staff were friendly. Rooms a little dark but otherwise fine. Do not recommend Porter's Steakhouse for dinner or breakfast. Wait staff was great but food was only ok but very pricey.

Road Trip 2010

Pros: Comfortable beds and pillows. The A/C worked. About it.
Cons: Too much for the amount of words you allow.
Location: Location was eh, just ok. Close to things we wanted to do so that was good.
The beds were comfortable. Loved the pillows. The air conditioning was great. The bottom of the tub could have been scrubbed better. I had to use the shower in the adjoining room, which was my Goddaughter and Godson's room. The pool was suppose to be heated but was cold. I didn't expect these things from such a nice hotel. The girl at the front desk didn't seem very friendly. Like she really didn't want to be there. Didn't feel very welcome.

Charming hotel is in need of remodel

Pros: The lobby
Cons: Hotel halls and rooms need to be updated! Carpet is old, wallpaper is peeling off, rooms don't reflect the charm of the lobby.
Location: Went to the Discovery Children's Museum and the Tennessee Aquarium
I picked this hotel for it's historical charm. The lobby is gorgeous but past that well it's not so nice. The hallways are hot, wallpaper is coming off, and the rooms need some update. It looks like they painted the rooms, but our room had a huge splatter of paint in the corner. The carpet was worn. In fact when I checked out the staff didn't even ask how was my stay? I think they know they are in need of repair.

Location: It was just a stop along the way for us...
The Hotel was nice, just old. The lobby was very beautiful. The room, not so much. The air conditioning didn't work well.
