Outdated hotel with a nice lobby

Posted Mar 16, 2015
Beautiful lobby but the rooms are very outdated. Carpet was torn and bathroom had holes in the wall where they had replaced some fixtures and paint was peeling.

Nice hotel downtown

Posted Mar 4, 2015
Pros: Location, price and general appearance. Valet service is welcome also.
Cons: not much
Location: Aquarium, Chattanooga Choo Choo, all Riverfront area restaurants, attractions etc
Stayed here twice now and is one of the best deals of location, appearance, price etc re downtown hotels. Only issue I had this time was a room that shared a wall with the elevator so heard intermittent noise but didn't keep me up at night so not a major issue. Would stay here in the future again if the need arises.

"Walkability"

Posted Feb 24, 2015
The best element of the hotel is the "walkability" to many of the attractions of Chattanooga - the staff were very friendly - the building historic (a bit shabby" in places)

Convenient to everything.

Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: Retains a bit of historic quality.
Cons: Put in something other than a full-blown commercial toilet. And check sinks and tubs for drainage. Sink drained very slowly; tub a bit slowly.
Location: Great location near things to do in downtown Chattanooga, but more importantly, near the Chickamauga battlefield sites.
Second time I've stayed here, last almost 10 yrs ago. Then and this time it was/is a kid fest and fairly noisy in the hallways. We weren't particularly close to the elevator but there was a lot of talking, laughing, yelling in the hallways. And you can hear it all. However, the staff is great, and very accommodating. The room is basic and clean. There is a small gym and an indoor pool (warning- taken over by kids). No issues overall and the original finishes and paneling add a nice touch to what remains a strong shadow of the original building. Oddly enough, my main complain would be the purely commercial, extremely loud toilet in the bathroom. Appearence-wise and noise level-wise, out of place...

Nice hotel in downtown

Loved this hotel. Only a short one-night stay for our first visit, but already thinking of a reason to come back for a longer time. Beautiful and charming.

Nice overnight stay

Posted Feb 21, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Bathroom cleanliness and access to windows
Location: On the free trolly line so pretty close to everything.
Elegant older hotel that needs a few updates here and there. The bed was very comfortable! Room was a little warm. Windows had desk and chairs in front of them in our room so it was hard to get to blinds to close them for the night. Location was very convenient on the free trolly line.

Didn't like that my hotel wasn't ready at 3 for checking, had to wait about 20 mins before we could go to our room.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, and perfect location. The food at Porter's Steakhouse was excellent! My only negative comment is that each room should have a mini refrigerator. Other than that minor inconvenience, it was perfect!

Historic Building With Charm, Great Staff

Posted Feb 16, 2015
This was the second stay my wife and I have had at the Read House. It's a large, old building (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) with a great staff. As mentioned, this is an old building. As such, there are a few areas that show the age of the property more than others (a squeaky door here or there, some windows that could use some TLC), but overall the property is in good shape considering its age. Our room was clean and surprisingly large. We stayed in a jacuzzi suite and it was clear that the jacuzzi itself had been thoroughly cleaned. The staff (from the valet crew to the front desk folks) were all friendly and accommodating. When checking in the front desk clerk provided some great food suggestions. Later in the evening we discovered we'd left toothpaste at home and they were kind enough to supply us with some free of charge. All told, we will definitely be staying at the Read House again the next time we're in Chattanooga.
