Jay and her team were outstanding. They made our stay at New Star pleasant. The breakfast buffet was good and of course the service was on point. The bar and pool area are also very nice and well managed. Good food and drinks and well-priced for a hotel. The property is set up well and everything is a short walk away however the rooms are dated. We had a villa which was probably beautiful at some point but it needs renovating particularly the bathroom. The shower was terrible. The water pressure was very weak and the temperature wouldn’t stay constant. The sink area felt old and unclean (it looked clean and I’m sure the staff did their best). The shower gel and shampoo were ok but there was no body lotion. The old style room key made it so we we couldn’t leave the AC on while out of the room because we had to take it with us and this would switch off the electricity. So we would come back to a scorching room that would take 20-30mins to cool off.

The highlight was breakfast with an excellent range of both Thai and Western cuisine complemented by friendly and attentive staff. The swimming pool is quite large with varying depths and never crowded. The beach is kept clean with some shaded areas. Unfortunately our room revealed some examples of maintenance neglect. Daily housekeeping is inconsistent when providing a clean, complete set of towels. One air conditioning unit to cool the bedroom area does not reach other areas of the bungalow which can become quite hot (perhaps consider the addition of a fan in the bathroom). Separate information about what television channels (and languages) are available would be helpful.

Fantastic hotel
Felt really welcome. My room was unreal. The staff were kind and helpfull. The hotel is located in a really good place the on the beach with a nice pool and bar. All round a really good hotel.

The manager went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. The hotel was beautiful and the rooms were spacious and clean. The service was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and kind. We definitely plan to come back.

Really wanted to write a negstive review for New Star Resort, just to keep people from discovering this somewhat hidden gem....but I just couldn't do it. This resort was exactly what I was looking for when booking to Koh Samui. A liitle south of the main city area, so away from the crowds and much quieter, but not too far for quick transportation. The resort itself was ideal. I had a bugalow room 30 m. from the beach. Long walkable beach either direction. 5 star hotels on either side, but you're not paying 5 star prices, for the same strip of beach. Entire staff were super friendly and helpful. (I know everone seems to say that but I've stayed at two other locations on this trip and while the were okay to good in terms if service, neither were up to New Star level.) Love this place!

Great spot, excellent beachfront and grounds, great service. Great buffet breakfast. Great location on one of best beaches on island - quieter and less busy than the main Chaweng beach. A great experience all around - would definitely come back !

Lovely hotel for a relaxing beach / pool holiday
Lovely hotel on a quiet stretch of beautiful beach. The pool area is only a couple of steps up from the beach. Plenty of sun beds for everyone so you could move around during the day. Service is great with the delivered to your sunbed, happy hour cocktails being a real selling point. Breakfast is an excellent buffet catering for international/ all tastes. Hotel is set out through ‘tropical gardens and are mainly low rise blocks - rooms are large with an indoor and outdoor shower and decent air conditioning. Centre of Chaweng is a short taxi ride or hotel shuttle bus ride away but not an issue - there’s a taxi station at the front gate. I have to mention the security people at the front gate who made you feel special every time you passed with their generous salute and protective assistance in helping you to cross the road or calling a taxi. We had a great time here and I’d recommend it,

We stayed in separate cottages which were spacious, private, and quiet. Grounds were beautifully manicured and the resort is situated on a beautiful beach for lounging on and swimming. The daily included breakfasts offered hot and cold dishes - very beautifully done! We were very happy with everything about this resort.

The mattress is very uncomfortable, some parts sink in and obviously, it is overly used and need to change new one. Hotel staff are friendly and very polite. Location is ok. To go to the shopping district, one has to take a cab there and it costs 300 bahts. Going to th airport is 500 bahts.

Don't stay here.
This is not a full service resort. I called them to set up a transfer for me and they said I can take a taxi from airport once I landed. They gave me a room that was not what was promised. Hotels.com just gave me the run around. I left after check in. The hotel needs maintenance all over property. Service is non existence. Stay away from this property. I stayed at the Briza beach resort. Great service better prices.

Overpriced and underwhelming
There is very little to say about this hotel that is positive. Reception staff were great and the guard at the front was also friendly. The bad. The rest of the staff are entirely disinterested. Room was dirty with hairs left everywhere in the bathroom. Housekeeping was until 3:30 - 4 each day. I stayed in the private pool villa which had rotten decking and exposed rusted nails. Was meant to have a seaview but that wasn't the case. The pool is not at all private because it has large cutouts where neighbouring villas can see straight in. Breakfast was absolutely disgusting and on the two occasions i ate there it was surrounded by people smoking. On one occasion i sat down to have breakfast at 10:15 and was basically kicked out by the rude staff. Overall this is a horrible hotel and i would strongly urge you to stay somewhere else. My email to management with my concerns was left unresolved.

Very nice stay in the hotel
We stayed cottage near by the pool and sea. It's was really close to just 1-2 mins we can go to the pool and sea. The sea is so clear and shallow that you can enjoy with you children. If you want to enjoy　snorkeling, I recommend to join the snorkeling tour. Throughout the whole thing, I am very satisfied.

This resort has great amenities and a quiet beach perfect for relaxing. The pool is refreshing and the rooms are comfortable and modern. It's quick drive to Chewang Beach where all the action is, so make it a point to check out the nightlife and restaurants because the area has a lot to offer, even though you don't get a good feel for it st the resort.

During our stay at this hotel, we have not experienced any hospitality from staffs. When I requested several simple demands to the reception staffs by internal line, they always answered " Yes, sure" but never responded until I visited the reception desk directly and requested again. When we had morning buffet in the restaurant, server's concern is only to put the dishes away, so they took our dishes and cups away even not fished yet. The location of hotel is good but we were very disappointed at the manner of those staffs, thus we won't visit this hotel again.

Great resort, but not worth the money
Stayed in a private pool villa for 4 nights. It's a great resort in a good location, and is far enough away from Chaweng to be quiet and peaceful, but not too far. The pool villa was nice and is located towards the beach front. The room was clean and had all of the amenities you could need. The only downside was the pool. I booked the room based on having a private pool. The pool was not really private, as it had 3 large windows around it, and the pool was only waist deep. There were no beach style chairs to lay down on next to it. So we really didn't use the pool. Staff were nice and helpful. Breakfast was ok, but not great. The resort has scooters for hire which are an excellent way to explore the island, and much cheaper than taxis etc. Some parts of the resort feel a bit run down and in need of an update. One thing to note is that the hotel is on a hill, so if you have bad knees or any other mobility problem, you might find it challenging moving around the place. Overall it's a great resort, but for the kind of dollars you are spending, you would expect something special. This place doesn't have it.

I love this hotel
The cabinet is wonderful, jsut walk 30 secs to the beach (not all the rooms, but other room shall be okay, guess 2 mins for farest room). Staff is nice, we also rent a motorbike from hotel, it's very convient, only 10 mins ride could arrive Chaweng street, the beach is also wonderful, clean. In summary, it's a good hotel for couple and family to stay.

Relaxing secluded resort
Resort is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Beach, pool and grounds are stunning. Food and drinks aren't great, but breakfast was great, big selection of food. Happy hour beachfront is a nice feature. Massage beachside also great. Vendors available at beach for shopping and fruits and corn. Games offered by the pool. A little far from town and market, at least a 15-20 minute taxi ride.

Lovely stay on the beach with comfy lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach. Wifi connection very poor in room but good in lobby and restaurant. Shuttle to Chewang beach is 50 baht per person per way.

be ready to see some ducks around, we had a big laugh at the beginning and then got used to it, does not matter much and makes it funny. Our reason to select this resort was mainly for a combination of beach (no rocks), location (not too far and not too close from busy areas), good resort and good price. We were upgraded to a villa with sea view, right in front of the sea. It was spacious, well equiped, clean, and had big windows, great to enjoy the view, but other guests could see us inside, at day and night time, not the best for privacy. We had to close the curtains constantly. The breakfast was diverse enough to accommodate guests from all around the world and quality was OK, it could be improved but honestly speaking, we had this same quality in all resorts we stayed at in Thailand. The hotel's employees were professional. English could be improved, but we were still able to communicate.

we had 5 nights at the hotel, and had fun for 4 days and nights- nice pool and beach, nice big room (we stayed at the villa), nice breakfast. in the last night we had dinner at the buffet (850 baht per person- a bit pricy for thailand) the food wasn't very good, the staff started to fold the food and tables while we where there and we got charged way too much for the drinks (140 baht for lemonade for ex.) eventhough nobody told us the drinks are not included in the price. we complained about it at the restaurant and at the front desk, but they didnt really cared, which was dissapointing...

Room needs better maintainence. Bathroom area is spacious, but the bedroom area is relatively small. Service from hotel staff is excellent and they are willing to help. Good location and easy to access Chaweng area. Comfortable pools and owns one of the best beaches in Koh Samui.
