"Friendly staff"
The hotel is very convenient for Chelmsford city centre and has good parking provision. Our room was small but comfortable and had all we needed. The staff were all delightfully friendly and helpful and the snacks and drinks we had in the bar were very good.

"Worst value hotel"
My husband and I, together with four other family members stayed at this hotel in March. It has to be the worst value hotel I have ever stayed in. For the price paid (bearing in mind it did not include breakfast, the cost of which was extortionate, so we declined that privilege), one would expect more niceties - ie luxury toiletries, etc. In addition, I was kept awake from about 3am onwards by the constant moving of trollies conveying dirty laundry close by our room. On top of that, two members of our party, who had paid the same price for a double room as we had, were given a very tiny room in comparison to ours - in fact it was more like a single room. The reception staff were not at all helpful, indeed, surly at times. However, the bar staff were much more polite and helpful. Finally, had we known that the hotel was so far away from the venue at which we attended a function that night (we assumed it was within walking distance, instead of which we had to get cabs), we would have booked rooms at one of the many other (much cheaper) hotels in the surrounding area. All in all, a very unhappy stay at this extremely overpriced hotel.

"Very comfortable country house hotel."
Very comfortable, geared up for conferences but ideal for a quiet break and a good base to explore the Blackwater and Crouch Estuaries. Lovely staff, good food, excellent breakfasts.

    Chelmsford, Essex Hotel Guide

One of the original settlements of Great Britain, Chelmsford is seeped in history. Today, it's mostly a bedroom community to those working in London, just 30 km away. In 2007, Britain's Channel 4 TV station voted it the eighth-best place to live in the UK. Chelmsford Museum, a local history museum, shows the town from prehistory to Tudor times.
