“Pleasant surprises”

I had booked the room for 2 adults and a child but had to take my younger kid at the last hour and they had no additional charges to accomodate him. As we checked in on the hot afternoon, we were served the customary welcome beverages. we really wanted to have some coffee and milk for the kids and this was served pronto at no additional costs when we checked into our rooms. The following day we had an evening flight and requested to extend our check-out by ~3hrs. While they could extend it only by an hour, the pleasing staff made sure we could avail of their luggage storage/locker room facilites to freshen up and also helped with local taxi bookings. The hospitality extended by the staff was commendable and seemed sincere. well appointed rooms/clean and well maintained/spacious and tastefully decorated.

“Excellent location and customer service”

The hotel was great in terms of location (next to major shopping) and accessibility to everything. The only negative was restaurants were expensive and hotel itself was fairly expensive

“Oasis in a harsh city”

Chennai is a sensory overload city... lots of noise, traffic and pollution. Not an ideal place to look for cheap accommodation. The Taj is ridiculously expensive for India, but I was nothing but pleased with my experience there. The pool is exceptionally comfortable and clean. The staff - in the lobby, restaurants and business center as well as the drivers - really gave the impression that they felt responsible for us having a good time. For example: when we went to the Raintree Restaurant only to find it completely booked, the manager added a table so that we could eat there. We stayed in a Heritage Room - it was enormous and very comfortable and there were a lot of little touches that made it special. The breakfast buffet is superb. There are several options for dinner. The Raintree, with South Indian cuisine and live music , was excellent. Hip Asia had some of the best Thai food I've ever eaten. Some parts felt over the top. I felt odd having a tub, shower, toilet and bidet in a city with a water shortage. Also,if you use the car service, you will find leather seats and your choice of music. Odd for India. But the drivers are very pleasant and speak English well. Note that the cost of using their car service, restaurants, etc. is very, very expensive for India. The costs are comparable to the same services in the US. I feel certain we could have had a good Chennai experience much cheaper. But we very much enjoyed this indulgence after several weeks on the road.

“Best accessible room & wonderful service”

We had just the best experience at the Taj during our recent stay in Dec 2008. The British raj era hotel has been wonderfully refurbished. The rooms are very spacious with high ceiling. They have the best accessible accomodation in Chennai and probably India. Unfortunately, they have just one such room. The staff is extremely attentive and very service oriented. When my daughter was in trouble with too much shopping stuff that won't fit in her suitcase, and it was the middle of the night with an early morning flight, the staff gave her all the packing supplies and actually packed her things for her in the middle of the night. Dinner at the rain Tree is a must. Great ambience on a cool December evening as we sat outside. Travelling with disability is very hard in India and Taj Connemora made the experience for my wife who is in a wheel chair, me and our family a delightful experience.

“Friendly, well-managed hotel.”

Excellent management who rectified any problems immediately and without fuss. The food was excellent especially Japanese food at HipAsia. Pool is relaxing and pool staff are on the ball. A great place for getting away from the outside world if you need a bit of a break otherwise handy location if you want to get out and about.

“Super comfortable heritage hotel”

Comfort: just excellent. Though it is not a luxury hotel as per Indian standard, it far exceeds similar star ratings of hotels in US. The beds are comfy and plenty of pillows and clean. The staff is super helpful and courteous. The pool is avoid respite from the sun. If you are lucky you may see the occasional little monkey on the compound trees. Food : the three restaurants and bar are really good. The breakfast buffet of western and asian foods ( as at all topindian hotels) makes for a good start to the day. Room service has an expansive menu of western, south and north indian, thai/vietnamese and chinese. The half-portions menu is a good plus to have when the chennai heat and dust leaves you exhausted and with a small appetite. Location: next to spencer plaza and walking distance to the express mall makes shopping for those presents very convenient. Drive to the airport can be long with the general chennai roads and traffic. The hotel ( as with all of chennai) has an occasional issue with mosquitoes depending on the wet season - all rooms have mosquito repellents plugged in - so no worries. Overall: an awesome hotel, very comfortable and enjoyable.

“Taj Hotel”

Excellent value for money. I stayed in a superior delux room which over looked the garden and enjoyed my stay. Breakfast was included and was excellent.
