“A taste of paradise!”

What an amazing resort! We stayed for 2-3 days at the end of March in a deluxe sea-view villa which is literally on the beach with it's own private garden complete with hammock and sun loungers - heaven! The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world. On the first night we dined at the al fresco "Upper Deck" which has beautiful views out to sea and a fantastic value tasting menu. On our last night we ate at the "Bay View" which does superb seafood and cocktails. The Jiva spa offers a huge range of treatments that are much cheaper than you'd pay in the UK. I had a traditional indian relaxation massage which was wonderful! The pool setting is great - lots of shade from the palms to escape the heat and a swim-up pool bar. I would definitely recommend this hotel for an idyllic, relaxing beach break.

“Very Impressed”

Definitely worth a visit. This hotel is located an hour away from Chennai. The surrounding neighbourhood and the main approach is not very nice but once you are inside the compound it was like another world. We stayed in the main building with a sea view. The staff is absolutely wonderful and will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The food was excellent. A great getaway. I wish it was a little cheaper. We would go back again for a longer time.

“A good place to relax outside Chennai”

This is a very well-maintained hotel on the beach south of Chennai. It has several restaurants, including one on the beach, and a large swimming pool. The rooms are large, but the bathrooms are quite small although they have a very large shower. The beach is not very clean and I would not recommend swimming in the ocean since the nearby fishing village seems to use it for a toilet. A trip into Chennai can take 1-2 hours depending on the traffic.

“A truly memorable stay!”

We stayed at the Vivanta for a night in November. The Taj certainly lives up to its name on this one in terms of comfort, style and cleanliness. Our stay was very memorable. We had booked a Delux room, and were pleasantly surprised when we got a complimentary upgrade to a cottage. The reception staff are very friendly and accommodative. The Taj has turned this place into a paradise with lush landscaping and walkable trails. The rooms are very comfortable, with all the amenities you'd expect of a 5-star hotel. There are 3 restaurants within the hotel, and so you have a good choice of cuisines. The food is delicious, but expensive. Overall, I'd certainly recommend this hotel for a 2-3 night stay away from the hustle-bustle of Chennai.

“Good beach resort just outside Chennai”

I stayed here for 3 nights after attending a wedding in Chennai and my overall experience was good: + Reachable within an hour of Chennai + Nice and spacious facility, i.e. lots of walkways and nicely landscaped greens + Great beach, i.e. private, clean, lots of space / not a lot of people + Nice pool area, i.e. big pool, in pool bar, lots of space for lounge chairs + Overall helpful staff and adequate facilities, i.e. lounge chairs everywhere, gym, 3 different restaurants, nice spa facility +/- The resort seems to have been expanded, i.e. there is a string of new buildings that house more upscale rooms, conference facilities, a new gym. Unfortunately, it is quite a bit of a walk away from the main areas of the resort (reception, pool area). Overall, the layout is not very intuitive - The original main hotel building (in which I stayed) is a little outdated / seems to need some renovation works, i.e. rooms lack charm, paints is chipped off, bathroom furnishings are worn down, etc --> The rooms here do not live up to 5 star quality - Wi-fi is charged extra --> I believe in the year 2012 Internet access in a 5 star hotel should be complimentary - "Bang for the buck" Especially for Indian standards this resort is quite pricey. Is it a nice resort with adequate level of service and accommodation? Yes. But is it that much better than other places charging half the price? Probably not.

Amazing beach location, was here for a wedding and enjoyed thoroughly.

“Great food, great place, good time.”

Great food, crowded during weekends. Friendly staff and good service. However attention to details as expected from a 5 start hotel is missing. Service / Requests takes times to be full filled and sometimes needs follow up. No hotel brochure in rooms, had to ask and received a print out.

“Warm breezes and a warm welcome at Fisherman's Cove”

This was my second visit and I wasn't disappointed. It's an oasis of calm midst gardens, pool and beach just half an hour away from the bustle of Chennai. Friendly attentive staff and a couple of excellent restaurants. The fish restaurant by the beach is a perfect venue for those balmy evenings with the sea breeze and waves lapping on the shore. And in the Coffee Shop we had arguably the best chicken we tasted in India. We'll certainly be back!
