"Truly an exceptional hotel, pricey but worth it."
This was an incredible hotel - service was excellent - all staff were courteous from bell boy to buggy driver to front desk, all full of initiative and helpful. The kids club was the reason why my family with my 5yo daughter decided to book the hotel. We were astounded by the level of thought and attention to detail put into the activities - the rice planting in a real padi/rice field with Thai outfit, and riding the buffalo with farmers (one farmer played a flute during the outing in the field) was authentic and a fantastic experience. My daughter had a hand in making the handicraft weaving out a "horse" and "fish" using the bamboo strips and plucking dried rose-petals.
The hotel compound is huge and showcases North Thai architecture - it is very well maintained. It has a calm very restful atmosphere - with our villa facing the padi fields complete with waterwheel. We definitely would visit the hotel again.

Staying here was one of our favorite experiences in Thailand. Truly a family owned lodge. From the beginning we were taken care of. The Father, daughter team acted as our guides and host/hostess. The mother the cook of amazing thai food. We went on treks, walked to the village, and spent time at the meditation center.

"Quirky boutique hotel away from the hustle and bustle"
Proud Phu Fah is a charming boutique hotel with fantastic design elements. We stayed here for two nights - spending one full day in Chiang Mai (downtown) and the other days taking the cooking class and going to the elephant camp. The hotel is away from the action and you really need a car to see anything. If you want to spend some time in uninterrupted peace and tranquility, this is the place for you!

Suriwongse Hotel was recommended to us by a friend, and I'm glad he did. The location is excellent for easy access to the night market and restaurants in that area. My friend and I had the chance to stay in three different rooms at the hotel after returning from our stay in Chiang Rai and at Baan Chang Elephant Park. If you do decide to stay at this hotel, definitely upgrade to the Premier Deluxe room, for just a little more, you get newly renovated room with better interior decoration and electronic keycard for security. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. During my short one-night stay, the manager kindly upgraded my superior room to the family suite. The room was nice, but still couldn't beat the Premier Deluxe.
One complain though with the family suite, the door between the adjoining rooms isn't secured enough. I was staying in the room alone, and the guest next door tried to open the connecting door. I hope this issue gets corrected soon.

We went to Chiang Mai for our honeymoon and enjoyed being out in the rural landscape and next to the amazing waterfall. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is only one restaurant there with a limited menu, especially for vegetarians. Fresh juices would've been nice instead of the same bottled ones each day. The showers run on solar panels, so hot water was only available at night not in the morning, this was ok with us but did upset other guests. There is not much to do but relax. Trouble was there's not many areas to just relax except your room or spikey grass, some hammocks or chairs on the grass would be good as not many places to sit and enjoy the view. The tours were good, but a bit expensive for what they were. Also, when we arrived a HUGE lunch was cooked for us which we did not ask for (most of it was meat and I am a vegetarian), we were charged (a fair bit) for this meal, even though we didn't really want it and I couldn't eat most of it! This was a bit rude...
When we went to pay at the end they added on a 10% service fee and 7% tax so it bumped up the price by $200, they should let you know about this prior to requesting it as it was a bit of a shock.
I guess it depends what your after, if you don't mind being very remote and spending a fair bit of cash then it may be perfect for you.
Staff are great, but a few improvements need to be made to make it more relaxing/enjoyable and less pricey.

There is comfort too and bed but shower room is a little bit dirty. I think I smell rust while showering -_-". The location is improper to bring your car in (there is no parking area).
If you just want a cheap room for rest, this place is a good one.
