“Decent hotel, great location”

The hotel is located about a block from the popular night market, but about 5 blocks from the outer parts of the old city. The room was tidy and well kept, albeit a bit old by most standards. My biggest complaints are that the water sometimes smelled and that wireless Internet wasn't free. The pool and spa were lovely. The staff knew only bits of English, which was challenging at times.

“The lift didnt work”

One of the lifts was out of action for the whole time I stayed there. Consequently sometimes we had to wait 5 minutes or more to go up or down. Furthermore, whilst the room was OK I wouldn't want the same one in another 6 months time when it will have become tatty. In short I think the hotel could do with a makeover.

“It was OK”

This hotel is in a pretty good location, and that is why I picked it. It is like 20 feet from the Night Bazaar (which once you go once, you've seen it all). The elevators take forever, there are four but run in pairs. It is a stupid system, and if I was not on the 15th floor I would have taken stairs. The room itself was old, I don't think the carpet had been vacuumed recently. The mattress sagged. The toilet area stunk bad. I don't know if the ceiling was leaking there or what. I did not complain seeing as it was livable. The staff was nice. Make sure you find out the price of the breakfast buffet before you eat there if you don't have breakfast included. It was $$. The restaurant downstairs has a cheap ($) dinner.

“too big, too many people”

I did go there during the busy time, but there was just too many people, since it was too big of a hotel, theere just weren't enough elevetors. Unless it was after 11 PM or before 6 AM, people were eaiting for a elevator for like 20 muinuies. Also, sevice was not good. They would charge for studpid things for 50 cence there, 60 cence there. stuff were not friendly., eithere, everyone were complaning!

“Adequate at best.”

For the affordable price we paid, we got what we paid for. However there were too many miscellaneous stains on our room carpet and under the bed was a sea of rubbish. However, the bed was comfortable (though it wouldn't pay to look under the sheet!),hotel staff were wonderful, the cocktails delightful and the pool charming, before the late afternoon rush hour.

“great location, poor service”

We arrived at the hotel and went to check in. They didn't have our combination of preferences as the hotel was fully booked. They offered and very abruptly either a smoking room or a twin room. We took the twin , which consisted of the room service folks shoving the beds together and leaving the single duvets. We also were looking for extra nights accomadation, but they were not helpful on this either. That said, the location of the hotel was great, but the service totally put me off.

“Centara Duangtawan”

As other reviewers noted, the key physical problems with the hotel are the outdated and run-down rooms, although I believe they are in the process of refurbishing them. Also, the pool is ridiculously too cold to even be useful. On the positive side, the gym is very good for a hotel gym. My biggest negative with the hotel was with the service. In 12 years of travelling throughout Thailand every year on holiday, and staying at dozens of hotels, I've never had as bad of service as at this hotel. It wasn't necessarily that the staff were mean; they just weren't smiling, they made no attempt to be nice, and everything seemed to be a "bother" to them (including me just checking in!). The doormen watched me lug my baggage from the taxi up the ramp into the hotel without bothering to offer to help. The reception clerk had no smile, gave me no greeting, and just seemed irritated that I was checking in. I was never greeted with so much as a "hello" or "good morning" at breakfast, even though I was always smiling and saying hello to them. The only person that ever smiled and laughed with me was the woman who cleaned my room one day. If you want to experience the "Thai Smiles", this is definitely not the hotel to stay at.

“Don't be fooled by the star rating”

This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in and by far the worst of my 3 week trip to Thailand. Room not ready when I arrived, then I was sent to the wrong room, then luggage was lost by the doormen, room was awful when I finally did get into it(stained sheets, carpet, and drapes, odd smell, extremely thin walls so I could hear every word said and faucet running in neighboring rooms). It may be worth the cheap internet rate for some people but it certainly isn't up to the star rating on Expedia, it is 2-star at best (1-star during my stay). I would never stay here again and would happily pay a little more to stay elsewhere.

“Very big hotel and very old”

stayed 2 nights it was not an enjoyable situation. The hotel is very large and old not kept well or up to date. The room had an old odor and the bed was uncomfortable, the tv had a broken panel, some of the channels did not work, wireless internet did not work most of the time and it was expensive, the staff was at least very friendly and helpful, they offer free pick up from the airport that was a plus and its right next to the night market, I dont know if I just got a bad room but I will never stay at this hotel again. The Le Meridien is across the street I think that will be my next hotel choice in Chiang Mai on my next visit. This hotel was not worth the money....
