THE WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!Posted Jul 20, 2015
Pros: NOTHING AT ALL!!!!
THIS HOTEL WAS UNDER A COMPLETE REBUILD, RENOVATION OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT AND NO ONE BOTHERED TO MENTION THAT ANYWHERE!!! THE PICTURES SHOWN WERE FOR THE HOTEL NEXT DOOR TO IT (LA QUINTA) SO DO NOT BE FOOLED BY IT. IT FELT COMPLETELY UNSAFE, THERE WERE PEOPLE DRINKING AND YELLING AND FIGHTING IN THE PARKING LOT AND BANGING ON DOORS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT (IT WAS EXACTLY 2 A.M. WHEN I WAS AWAKEN BY WHAT I THOUGHT WERE GUN SHOTS, BUT WERE IN FACT THE SOUNDS OF A DRUNK MAN BANGING LOUDLY ON A DOOR TRYING TO GET IN A ROOM). WE CHECKED OUT THE NEXT MORNING, REGARDLESS OF US HAVING RESERVED ADDITIONAL NIGHTS, SO MY COMPLAINT WILL GO FURTHER THAN THIS AND I EXPECT AND DEMAND A FULL REFUND FROM THIS HOTEL!!! HORRIBLE, JUST HORRIBLE HOTEL!!!

Convenient, Polite, and AffordablePosted Jul 11, 2015
We recently stayed at the Lake Shore Hotel during a recent overnight trip to Chicago and after reading some negative reviews, we were hesitant. Upon arriving to the hotel, I could see what some reviewers were basing their claims off of - the building looked a bit run down, there was scaffolding around most of the rooms, the pool was under construction etc. While the hotel does not look impressive upon first glance however, it was an enjoyable and simple stay. The room and bathroom were clean and served their purpose, the hotel sits right on the Lake and the staff was incredibly friendly. The hotel also runs a free shuttle downtown into the city making travel and city visits a breeze. The bottom line - if you're looking for a 5-star hotel experience and the best that Chicago has to offer, look elsewhere (and pay quite a bit more). However, if you're looking for a reliable, no frills and affordable hotel, Lake Shore should provide you with what you need.

Wait until the renovations are complete.Posted Jul 10, 2015
Cons: 1/ Fridge in room or ice maker near rooms 2/ HD tv service to go with the new HD TV. 3/ Sound on all TV channels
Location: We wanted to use the water front trail to walk and this Hotel offered great access to it. Once on the trail it was a 7mile walk to Navy pier.
The good: 1/Room was clean. 2/Bed was comfortable. 3/Breakfast was good and new addition was clean. 4/Close to water front trail. 1/2 mile walk from hotel. 5/New gym is nice and the equipment is good quality. The bad:We stayed in R 517 1/Major renovation in progress so you will be awake before 7 am because of the noise. 2/New TV with old remote that did not work well. Picture and sound quality were poor. Standard def on a HD tv. 3/Room was clean but had a strange smell. It may have been a smoking room at one time. 4/New AC unit worked will but did not have a fan On option thus woke us up when it would start in the night. The New AC unit in the Gym has a fan ON option so why not the room AC? 5/ No fridge in room. 6/ Poor access to ice maker. Ice maker was across the parking lot in the main lobby up the elevator to the second floor. 7/ Car covered with saw dust and insulation dust. 8/On line picture don't show what you get.

Good location near the lakePosted Jul 9, 2015
Pros: Location and price.
Cons: Pool is currently unavailable.
Location: Close to the University of Chicago.
The hotel is undergoing renovations so we had a few issues, but it was clean, well priced and the staff was efficient.

Horrible!Posted Jul 8, 2015
Construction zone! They should be closed while remodeling, didn't feel safe, it was more like a motel. Didn't have my reservation from Expedia I had to find my own reservation. If Laquinta next door had a room I would have stayed there instead. Scaffles were all around the building which made it possible for anyone to hide and rob you. See my pictures:

Construction on-site, right outside roomPosted Jul 5, 2015
Pros: Nothing, except had a bed
Cons: Only rent when the hotel is completely done
Location: Nothing to do.
Construction on site, scafling and plastic over window. Ceiling tile falling from construction, loud, construction early in morning, no safe parking spot for car, loud, no suitable for renting out during construction to rooms, should be closed during construction, so not worth the money I paid. I could have paid just a little more to stay inside city had I known the construction was going on. This hotel should not be on the site until it is completely done. Unable to sleep last night due to loud guest

Major ConstructionPosted Jul 4, 2015
This hotel should not be open while it is going through this "updating". For a $100 a night, I didn't expect the Ritz, however with the 3 Star review that was on Expedia, I figured it wouldn't be a bad place to stay for the night since we were visiting U Chicago (and it's only a couple of miles from there). First, there is no security and anyone can walk right up the stairs to the rooms. The hallway were unlit, and inside the room lights were broken, the curtains were falling off the track, threadbare towels, and a couple of moths were flying around. The desk clerk told me that they are in the process of becoming a La Quinta hotel and gave us coupons for the breakfast buffet - which was actually pretty good. I'm not a hotel snob, and realize you generally get what you pay for, but I would find another place to stay.

Don't stay herePosted Jul 3, 2015
Room was in remodeling area. Lots of dust and fumes from construction. Carpet was dirty, bed had an odor and door wouldn't close tightly.

Renovations made it not as enjoyable!Posted Jun 27, 2015
No one let us know about the renovations. There was no pool, our door leading to our door to our room was broke. The a/c was broke and sonic stayed very humid in the room and we couldn't sleep through the night. The restaurant was good, but expect to wait a while because it's short staffed during the week. It's a great location and I'm sure when it is done being remodeled it will be very nice but until then stay away!!!!!!

Renovations and pricePosted Jun 25, 2015
Renovations are nice. Hope prices don't climb too high.
