Old style hotel, but I loved it!

Posted Mar 3, 2015
Pros: I loved the old style of it!
Cons: Access to a microwave or a refrigerator in the room if needed, even one in the lobby as well as some snack machines where the beverage machines are.
Location: We found many fun things to do close by.
The staff was all very nice from the front desk, security, cleaning staff and concierge. Everyone was very helpful and patient with us when we needed directions!

Horrible

The heat didn't work. The shower didn't get hot. The toilet ran alright and wouldn't flush properly.

Close to where I needed to be.

Pros: Beautiful Lobby! The architecture is amazing! The staff was and room service was punctual and courteous at all times.
Cons: Add some comfortable seating. Adjust the heater with a fan only setting.
Location: On Michigan Ave near Grant Park.
Staff was wonderful! Room was very warm. If windows were open it was too noisy. We valet our vehicle overnight. It was returned 'snow free' when we were ready to check out! The Bell Hop was their to help us get our luggage down to the lobby and into the car.

Perfectly located for our needs

Posted Mar 2, 2015
We were visiting a couple of nearby schools with my daughter and the location was perfect. So was the price. It was obvious that the hotel is trying to cut some corners (smallish TV and other little things) but this did not matter at all. It was clean and pleasant. The heating was a bit too high but you could open a window (despite the 4 degrees F outside) which we did. Overall a positive experience in downtown Chicago for a great price.

View of lake makes it magnificent.

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: Heat was a little tough to manage. Also would have been nice to have a fridge OR A bigger ice bucket so we could keep a few small things cold.
Location: We walked to the Art Institute and the Shedd Aquarium. Tons of great restaurants. Check out Yolk. Also the nearby library is a site to behold.
Stayed with 2 kids. Spent more time in room than would have liked due to severe wind chill advisory. The giant windows with view of Lake Michigan and the museum campus made it so much better than it would have been otherwise.

Run down hotel. Was probably very nice years ago, but had not been kept well.

Although the hotel is an old one, its condition is in very good shape. The locality of this hotel is great.

Cozy Place with Basic Comforts

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: I liked the quietude. I liked the location. I liked it's old-fashioned feel.
Cons: If the housekeepers wore hair nets, that would keep the occasional hair from being left behind. There weren't many, but you asked. ;-)
Location: The L is readily accessible from the hotel to take you all over town. I was able to walk to the Chicago Cultural Center or other museums.
I have stayed at this hotel before. It is inexpensive and comfortable. While the decor shows signs of age, I actually like that sort of thing. The location is perfect for the business that I do while in town. My room was quiet. The heater was a little strong, so I would turn it off at night and keep it on low during the day. Even with the intense Chicago winter, the room did not become particularly cold with the heater off for eight or so hours at a time. While use of the business center was extra, $10/hr for one hour's worth of work was fine for me. I was not charged anything to print out my airline boarding passes. The lobby was always a warm place to walk through on my way back to my room from business or fun!

Really nice hotel

If I visit Chicago, I will always choose Congress Plaza Hotel. This is either nice or cheap hotel. I loved it.
