Clean and loved the classic grandiose decor. Unfortunately our room was connected to the other rooms on either side of us, and there was a large gap between the doors and the floor, meaning we could see light and hear all the noise (TV, even hear when the person was showering) from their room while in our bed.

I did have some concerns based on other reviews - but I find this a very delightful hotel - the lobby is gorgeous and I love the sense of history. My room is large and comfortable. OK - the place is showing it’s age - but I really like that. Highly recommended.

The floor and corridor is not clean and dump smelling. Inside the room no air conditioning, broken fan. The toilet and bath were clean and good.

The lobby looks good but the floors where the rooms are, are dirty, ugly and old. There is wall paper falling, holes on the wall covered with wood. The carpet is super dirty and different color. The looks look ok at first sight but the bathroom was dirty, old and unfinished floor. Overall not even worth the cheap price.

I had very high hopes for the congress as I have been coming to Chicago for years and have heard great things. My expectations were not met at all. The floor in our room was dirty when we arrived, toilet flushed so aggressively that water would jump out of the side's, the elevator and hallways smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and the pillows on the bed were basically just throw pillows and not comfortable to sleep on at all. The staff was very friendly, but I cannot say that we will be staying here again.

Our initial room was not as we had hoped (carpet caused some coughing), but we were able to switch rooms at a minimal cost, much better view, with hardwood floors.

We loved everything about our room, the view and being close or walkable to most things. Plus they were helpful with any questions we had. Also offered free storage of our luggage prior to check in. Close to subway and parking. Our room was warm but that's understandable considering being high up and it being an older building. We wanted the history and the view which it gave both.

Enjoyed our stay! The hotel is beautiful!! Lots of fascinating stories. Great central location, everything was within a 20-30 minute walk, which was perfect to enjoy the scenery. Room service was great and the portions were huge! There is also a nice bar/lounge on the first floor. Our only complaint was that it was a little stuffy and hot in the room. But once we found that we could crack the window open it was fine. Would definitely stay there again!!

It was a nice vintage looking hotel, but once we got onto the 7th floor, we could see the carpets, tile, paint, doors, and walls were not kept up and looked dirty. In the hallway one of the walls between the elevator and our room N718 was pushed out (busted out) like someone tried to break through that wall from the other side. VERY SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

The congress hotel is a beautiful building with a grand historical history. However, the owners in rehabilitating this grand hotel use shoddy workman to save money and it showed. Paint job in room was horrible, faucet was loose, paint spot on floor, paint on door hinges, Staff was excellent.

The size of the building and the lobby were nice. Checking in was a night mare. The lady working the desk couldn't understand our two different reservations and insisted that she new what we needed. After 20 minutes of she explaining to me "what I didn't understand" she handled us four keys for four rooms. We had reserved three rooms for four nights. There were two other people working the desk but she was the must experience one.

This is a historic building. Big, elegant and in a perfect location. But it's old. Rooms are old, a/c and heaters are old, beds are not that comfortable and I understand the historic part of it but even the room tv was old. I really like this hotel, a lot; just think could be better because have a lot of potencial. Staff was great and room was clean. Everything else is awesome in this hotel. Just have in mind that you will not be in a modern place.

Congress Plaza Hotel is has a lot of nostalgic charm and some historical interest. However, in many ways it is not what I imagine it once was. I would have been happier if the price for our rooms had been less expensive. I was also disappointed that a hotel of that size did not offer coffee in the lobby nor continental breakfast of some kind.
