Great location for Naval Recruit graduationPosted Dec 1, 2013
Very close to base, so we were able to pick up and return our sailor within his liberty times very easily. The hotel is undergoing renovations in some buildings, so the fewflaws we saw in the room will hopefully be fixed soon. The wallpaper was starting to peel and there was some definite drywall damage in the bathroom. For the price, we definitely got a deal. The cleaning service did a good job every day, theheater for the room works fine, bed was very comfortable. If you are looking for a good spot near the base, this isntisn't a bad choice at all. Restaurant in the parking lot was great, gas station right there with everything else, shopping down the road. Good spot.

You get what you pay for.Posted Nov 26, 2013
Pros: The hotel was quiet and clean.
Cons: The hotel is in need of external upkeep.
Location: Just minutes from Great Lakes Naval base and less than an hour from downtown Chicago.
This is definitely a hotel that has seen better days. It has a worn down feeling to it and is in need of some cosmetic upkeep. The room, however, got the job done. It was clean and quiet and the staff responded to our requests quickly and cheerfully. The main factor for choosing the hotel was its location in regards to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes. It was literally 4 minutes from the gate to attend our son's graduation. If you need a weekend stay close to the base, this is the place.

Sketchy Location, Scary movie type of room!Posted Nov 25, 2013
Pros: Like I said, the hotel receptionist was helpful and sweet. Also, the maids did a good job of cleaning once an issue was pointed out.
Cons: Updated rooms. New paint, wallpaper, linens, tile, key card access, etc. For the record-I have NEVER given a negative review like this!
Location: It was a quick drive (3-5 minutes) to pick up and drop off our son.
let me start out by stating the good: The front desk receptionist was genuinely sweet and helpful. Now for the rest of the story: The hotel I had reserved was supposed to have been in Gurnee because we had heard not to stay by the Navy Base for our trip to watch our son graduate from boot camp. Somehow it got switched to this hotel and I'm still not sure how that happened. Anyway, we pulled up and noted a two-story motel-like building with dead weeds all around the perimeter of the building. We decided to give it a go regardless of the exterior thinking that perhaps the interior was being renovated (some of the windows and doors were covered with painters tape and paper). When we got to our room we couldn't get the key card to work--the door was sticky during our entire stay. Also, the molding for the door had been picked off and was rusty. This is what we saw: My husband pointed out what he thought was blood on the wall in the corner (after examination it appeared to be chew spit) My daughter pointed out the big clump of long hair balled up in the corner of the bathroom The caulk in the corners of the bathroom near the toilet was black The wallpaper was peeling in places The pillows were super hard and flat (we bring our own, so it was alright for us, but be forewarned!) There was no hair dryer or coffee maker in the room There was a hole in our comforter Also, the area was extremely sketchy! We joked it was like something out of a horror movie!

Wonderful and Friendly Staff =)Posted Nov 11, 2013
Pros: The staff definately!
Cons: The bathrooms and i think that house keeping also needs to provide more towels and toilet paper that way the staff will have it on hand when asked for
Location: If u are going to graduation, u just turn right when exiting the hotel and go straight down berkley st, they have signs for it too, easy to find!
Stayed here for the navy graduation, Staff is incredible! They are so friendly, and willing to go the extra mile for you. Very resourceful especially with directions to graduation and any questions I had about how to get to where I needed to go. One of the staff also printed out directions for me and the in laws to get home. They are just SO incredible! Breakfast was pretty good, they have orange juice, milk, honey. Coffee. Pastries, maple brown sugar oatmeal, raisin bran and chocolate frosted flakes, muffins and cookies. I not sure if the menu changes but for the 2 days i was there these were good enough for me. I love the beds, comfy! I shared a room with the in laws. The only not so good thing for me to say is, the bathroom is pretty small and there were like cigerette burns in the blankets lol. I shouldnt laugh at that but i thought that was kind of ghetto.

Old hotel close to Great Lakes navy base.Posted Nov 5, 2013
Pros: The price, the closeness to the base.
Cons: How 'bout everything! Even the speed at which they are renovating-appears they have been working on it for quite some time.
Location: About a mile from Great Lakes; 15-20 minutes from Six Flags and Guernee Mills Mall (which is the 3rd largest mall under one roof in the United States)
I had a heads up that it was old and furnishings were worn and outdated, but that the bed linens were clean and reasonably comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. I accepted the "go ahead and book" advice simply because it is close to base, price is cheap, and all I really needed was a place to sleep and clean up. All of the above dead on....but I just am not sure I would stay here again. There was a bag of some kind of chips left in my room from previous guests, there was a hole in the bathroom door as if someone had kicked it in at some point, the dark green carpet was stained (I didn't dare walk barefoot!), my bathroom was a jacuzzi tub with a shower head for showering (awkward), the shower spray was ridiculously fine (obviously a water saver shower head), the wallpaper was old and dirty, the furniture was very visibly worn and questionably "clean," only 1 ice machine worked, the free breakfast was not kept "stocked" so if you didn't get their early enough chances are you might just end up with a banana (that was offered with danishes, cookies, lemon break, and mini muffins of blueberry and banana nut). Basically, if you just want a suitable place to sleep and clean up at a low price and decor/date of furnishings and overall appearance don't matter to you - this is the place! Maybe request to see your room before you pay - because you have to pay in advance at check-in ... Not check-out!

Rooms where old and run down, dirty, and smelly.Posted Nov 3, 2013
Cons: Remodel the entire hotel / inn
Location: Navel Base, 6 Flags
After checking in to what was suppose to be a non smoking room, the room was so dirty and smelled of nicotine so bad that we requested a room change. The 2nd room was only marginally better but not better enough to want to stay, so we checked out and went to another hotel. Nothing against the staff however, they were very helpful and tried to please but the entire inn needs a renovation.

Close to Great Lakes Recruit Training Center.Posted Oct 23, 2013
Pros: Good continental breakfast, shuttle available to the base if needed.
Cons: Clean and refurbish rooms, add a small restaurant if feasible.
Location: Great location if you have family/friends graduating boot camp. Near Great America theme park, Gurnee Mall for shopping and food.
Adequate facility, nothing special. Remodeling in progress, rooms were dingy, wallpaper peeling off the walls. Not real comfortable with the location, seemed like a bad area around the motel.
