“Helped make the night unforgettable!”
My girlfriend and I decided to get away for a night on the town, and the Drake Hotel was a wonderful experience. Visually the hotel is rather stunning to behold - the high ceilings, the intricate patterns in the carpets, the chandeliers, and the sculptures and fountain . . . it was very nice. We didn't eat there, but the in-house restaurants and bars looked good too. The doormen were polite, as were the check-in clerks. Our lady was very quick, which was good since we had a decent amount of bags. The elevators are nice, with a vintage position indicator on the lobby wall and couches in some of the cars. King sized bed - yup, very comfortable. The ottomans and chairs were sweet too. The sheets and pillows were soft and very warm. The internet in the room worked great - we Skyped with some of my distant family members and the audio/video never got slow over almost half an hour. Naturally the minibar items were quite expensive, but the gift shop downstairs had the same stuff for only a slight markup over 7-Eleven price. The TV was not used. Waking up in the room was also amazing, with the city right outside and a lot of activity. As for the downers, the cable to our internet was broken. I told the desk and they handed me a new one, expecting me to install it. I didn't bother, and managed to get the broken cable to work. Also, the bathroom was great (nice shower) but the door didn't close tightly, and so would drift open at the slightest breeze, locked or not.
“Old School Charm”
The Drake is a blast into the past. More character and elegance. Great service. Nicely kept, but could stand a little upgrading in the room decor. Great location. I would stay there again.
“Great Chicago Hotel”
The Drake is a classic and the experience reflected it. Excellent location, great service, and the food at the restaurants was outstanding. It is expensive but as we all know, we get what we pay for.
“Wonderful hotel”
Stayed in a lakeview room that had a great view. The room was quiet and very comfortable, the staff friendly and efficient, and tea in the Palm Court a nice treat. The only negative was the breakfast in the executive lounge was so-so and the extra cost for wine/alcoholic beverages in the evening in the executive lounge was pricey for what you get. Otherwise a great place to stay and will definitely return.
“Great World Class and Old Charm”
It was a great weekend getaway for my wife and I. Thanks! The only complaint would be the "old" tub/shower. As you took a shower the tub filled up with water. It had no negative bearing on our weekend.
“Well Known Hotel - Great Location”
We've flown through Chicago but never stayed overnight. I'm glad we chose the Drake for our long weekend get-away. Old hotel with friendly staff. The bar had the best lemon drop martini I've every had! Great location for upscale shopping, restaurants, jazz clubs or a stroll along Lake Michigan. Within easy walking distance to subway (a great way to get to the baseball parks).
“Wonderful atmosphere!”
Location, location, location - what more could you ask than to be right by the lake and Michigan Ave. The Drake Hotel experience was perfect from the harpest playing in the main dining hall to the well-kept surroundings of this 1920's establishment. Highly recommend.
“Very Elegant”
Quiet
“Charming and Sophisticated”
The Drake lives up to its reputation. It's classic, yet comfortable; austere, yet warm; familiar, yet unforgettable. We had a wonderful stay there, and we can't wait to go back.
“Old World Comfort”
Beautiful decor...lots of velvet and oak, painted ceiling wod panels etc.. Located in the middle of fun things to do. The room is posh. marble bathroom floors, more pillows on the bed than you can use, that sort fo thing. I loved it
