nice location and atmoshere

We really enjoyed our stay in Chicago and found the location and the feeling off the history of the drake very appealing. The staff were all very nice. The only problem was the hotels policy for check in and check out. We arrived early and did not think our rooms would be ready and they were not. They then proceeded to tell us it could be available for a fee of 25 dollars. Then on the night before we were to check out I asked if we could get a late check out, but they said the hotel was all booked for the next day and it would not be possible. In the morning I asked how much it would be to stay in our room until 6 because we had a late flight, we were then told for 75 dollars we could stay in our room. All of the sudden they did not need our room. These two events just did not sit well. But overall our stay was great.

Very good option

Pros: "Old" hotel character, location
Fantastic location at north end of Mag Mile - beach, shopping, nightlife all within a few blocks, safe area. Elegant landmark hotel, good job of updating rooms while maintaining traditional feel. Beautiful lobby, excellent jazz nights with live music in the large bar area just off the lobby.

Beautiful hotel, top location. Service did not mat

At this price, wireless/internet services unacceptable. Room maid services truculent for first time ever in my experience. Open areas either crowded or deserted. Overall, disappointed

Great location to the shopping and walking beach.

Pros: Old but grand hotel. Mostly middle aged couples. Not a lot of young kids running around.
Location: Water Tower Place, John Hancock building two blocks away, along with all the shopping possibilities. Two minute walk to the beach on Lake Michigan.
Stayed two nights, had lake front view rooms. Enjoyed food at the Drake Bros and at the Coq d' Or bar. Live entertainment at the bar and in the Palm Lounge you could dance all night!

Pros: Beautiful public spaces
Cons: Room sizes are inconsistent. We had a large room whereas our friends had a cracker-jack box sixed room for the same rate.
Location: Great location to dining, the beach and amazing shopping!
The worst part of this hotel is the paper-thin walls between rooms. We could hear EVERYTHING in the adjoining room. We had to call security 2 times in the middle of the night because of the noise level from the adjoining room. Very upsetting when you are paying a considerable amount of money for a hotel room.

Nice but noisy.

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: The furnishings, facilities and staff are all top- notch.
Cons: Have Pepsi products in the gift shop!! I am from the South! Ha! Ha!
Everything was awesome except for the banging pipes in our room every 30 or so minutes. I understand it is an old - and gorgeous - hotel so I dismiss the noise for that reason. I will definitely return!!

Good Value for Landmark Location

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: Location and staff service.
Cons: Decor and musty smell in roomms
Location: Located at north end of Miracle Mile, next to Lake Shore drive and beach. Walking distance to terrific shopping and restaurants.
Great location and very good staff/service. Rooms are a bit dated and have a slight musty smell. Had to open the windows to air out the room. Room did not have guest robes, which one would expect from a hotel of this caliber at this price. Suggest that management spend some money to update the property to better compete with Ritz and Four Seasons.
