We were helping our daughter move to Chicago and on the basis of Expedia comments stayed here. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. The breakfast was great. The staff made us feel as thoujght we were being welcomed into their home. When we visit our daughter we will definitly stay here.

Lobby and ground floor area looks very nice. However, the upstairs rooms were very small and dingy.

Comfortable accommodation in downtown Evanston

Posted Sep 17, 2014
Pros: Relaxed environment, comfortable room.
Cons: In room coffee-making facilities would be good.
Location: Short walk to downtown shops and restaurants, beaches and Northwestern University.
Pleasant stay in a location convenient for the things we wanted to do in/around Evanston. Nice breakfast included, but no in-room tea/coffee-making facilities.

Comfy Old School Hotel in Marvelous Location.

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Location: Excellent location near downtown Evanston and Northwestern campus, just a few blocks from Lake Michigan. Everything the town has to offer is near by.
From the street, the Homestead looks a bit like a high-class retirement community, and that speaks to its pluses and minuses. Overall, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The Quince restaurant is an oasis of classic calm and class. The lobby bar (which doubles as breakfast room) has a clubby vibe. The elevators are small and rather gradual. The rooms are compact and very serviceable. My air conditioner was small and a bit antique but generally equal to the task once property adjusted. The bathroom too was older but full functional with plenty of hot water at all times and no issues. TV and refrigerator and other appliances all in good working order. Best part of the hotel is the attitude of the friendly and helpful staff.

Evanston hotel

Posted Aug 16, 2014
Pros: The convenient location and free parking.
Cons: It would be nice to have coffee makers in the rooms. The carpet in the elevator is worn and needs replacing.
Location: The location is outstanding, near the parking garage (free for guests), downtown Evanston, and the Northwestern campus.
I needed a hotel near Northwestern University but didn't want a place as expensive as the Orrington or the Hilton. The Homestead was just blocks from the university and worked well for me.

Convenient hotel for Northwestern Univ

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Pros: Very convenient for university visits. The ambiance is nice and the neighborhood really safe.
Cons: Retrain the lady who mans the front desk in the evenings
Location: Great area, great food and the university and the lake just a skip away
We arrived at 4 pm after a long drive and the lady at the desk told me that my reservation dates were different. It was lucky that I had a fax from the hotel.

Comfortable, homey and well-located

Posted Aug 3, 2014
Pros: The spaciousness of the suite and the Homestead's porch, great both for relaxing and for people watching.
Cons: Emphatically No!
Location: Please see the above.
Our family rented a delightful suite for the week. We chose the Homestead because of the space the suite provided and because of its location - close to the lake front, Northwestern and family, but also because it is in a more residential section of Evanston. The hotel fulfilled everything that we wanted.
