Hotel at the social hub of Chicago

Posted Oct 26, 2014
Pros: It's cool lobby and bar area and the comfortable beds in our room. The complimentary car to anywhere downtown was very useful.
Cons: The fitness centre - too basic, rather small and not well maintained.
Location: Hotel is on the corner of East Bellevue and Rush and is well placed for walking into the main areas of downtown.
Stayed here with my 25 year old son for a week's holiday in October. This hotel is very cool and chic and seems to be the place to be seen whether eating, drinking, or staying. It is surrounded by very popular restaurants and bars but is sufficiently far out of town to be quieter at night. The area on Rush where it is situated is one of the wealthiest areas of downtown Chicago - consequently the prices for eating out are high. The hotel's own bar/restaurant ,Nico, is very expensive so we only ate there once and felt that it was nothing exceptional although the staff were eager to please. Our room was on the 12th floor and was quiet, with brilliantly comfy beds and attractive decor. Usual touches of luxury included fluffy towels and bathrobes, minibar, iron and board, hairdryer and toiletries. We really missed the English tradition of Tea/Coffee making facilities in the room - Tea & Coffee were complimentary in the hotel lobby from 6 until 9 am but it would have been lovely to have a cup of tea in bed ( Room service was also very expensive so we did not feel this was an option). Breakfast here is an eye popping $60 per person ( the same as we often paid for dinner out in restaurants) so we went next door to Starbucks every morning ! We used the fitness centre one morning but were dipsappointed. The air conditioning was not working so it was uncomfortably hot and the exercise balls were so in need of inflation they resembled saggy octaganarians! Only basic equipment too.

Great addition to the Chicago hotel choices

Posted Oct 22, 2014
Pros: location, room furnishings
Location: The Miracle Mile and Oak Street a block away
The newly renovated hotel is perfectly located for walking and dining. Rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable. Highly recommended assuming a decent price point, but rates do get quite high at times. For an upscale experience that isn't stuffy do try.

Great hotel in a nice neighbourhood.

Posted Oct 21, 2014
Pros: The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The hotel was clean and modern with spacious rooms.
Cons: I prefer a hotel that has coffee provided in room as well as a mini fridge.
Location: Great location. Felt safe. Lots of good restaurants nearby and shopping very close also. It is possible to walk almost anywhere you might want to go.
Had a wonderful time in Chicago and enjoyed our stay at Thompson Chicago.

absolutely delightful

Cons: The parking is expensive but there is a garage across the street for half the price.
Booked and checked in within 20 minutes. The staff was delightful and the room was spectacular. Really comfy bed, beautifully designed bathroom and CO Bigelow product. Grab a cocktail at their bar.

Mixed feelings, great location

Posted Oct 12, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Service was really haphazard and no real benefit in the VIP elite scheme
Location: Original pancake house opposite is fun for breakfast, about a ten minute walk from Old Town with lots of great restaurants, 36 bus is useful trick!
Great location and lovely rooms. But several cons: - Service was generally sloppy which was a pity, we had parcels delivered and on the first day they came we had to ring for them, then only one was delivered so we rang back to chase the second one - No breakfast included, but there is a great pancake place across the road - Interstate phone call was very expensive - Lots of mistakes on our bill at check out but were corrected - Long time waiting to get through to concierge for a porter and eventually gave up as it just rang and rang and rang When we checked in the Elite/VIP stuff wasn't mentioned and although there was a bottle of wine to apologise it felt like a gimmick that wasn't honest. On the upside: Very generous room size compared to NYC hotel rooms Big bath that filled quickly Corner room was very spacious although no real view Comfortable big bed

Well situated near to several of main Chicago attractions, Michigan Ave, Hancock Tower, Lake Front, and more. Nice restaurant, bar and excellent service all round. Yes we would stop there again.

Great hotel, great location, great service

Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Location and comfort
Cons: Slightly more friendly reception staff, but door team & concierge are excellent
Location: Loads of restaurants, the lake and of course the Magnificent Mile
The check in experience was very friendly and efficient and I was pleased with my 10th floor, city view kingsize room. It has everything you need, finished in nice contemporary furnishings. Good TV, good bed and great bathroom. The location is also excellent, 35-40 minutes from the airport and within 2 mins walk of the Magnificent Mile. Front of house team, concierges etc are all really good and take care of your needs. Check out service was ultra fast, in fact maybe a little too fast. A slighter warmer check out experience would be nice but it's a minor niggle. Finally, please include bottled water in the room. At this level of hotel and at these prices, there should be complimentary water in the rooms. Will return on my next trip to Chicago.
