“You get what you pay for- rates are low.”
A decent basic hotel, but if you're looking for a lot of amenities go somewhere else.
“For those on a budget”
The fixture and fittings in this hotel are dated and tired. The hotel is in desperate need of renovation, however for those on a budget, the hotel does offer a relatively central location for little money
“Not impressed”
The room was clean and fresh but extremely cold. I had to get up in the middle of the night to put on more clothes because there was such a draft coming from the windows. The worst part was the bathroom. It was so cold in there that my mom refused to take a shower. Turned out that there were no storm windows, and the windows were old and drafty. The room had no bedside lights. I called housekeeping and left a message requesting a light, but we never received one. The location was great. Easy walking distance everywhere. The service was ok. The bell captain was very helpful in getting us a taxi, but when he wasn't around the reception staff had to help out, which they seemed kind of reluctant to do.
“Worth More Than the Cost”
I stayed at the Travelodge while attending a conference at the downtown Hilton. It cost less per night, and getting to my conference took about a 5 minute walk. This hotel is in the middle of downtown and right next to the Mag Mile, so the location is golden. The staff were very polite and gracious, helping us to hail cabs or directing us to a great restaurant. The rooms are standard, but absolutely nothing was wrong. My only complaint was the windows let a little cold air in, so we had to turn up the heat at times. Otherwise, a great stay, great hotel, a trip that was worth more than the cost.
“Good Value, convenient location”
The staff were wonderful. The room was very clean. The building and fixtures are showing their age. The location for wandering downtown and over to the stadium were great.
“Can't wait to go back”
Situated near the loop
“Meh. It was ok.”
We needed a room for one night during the week. This was the cheapest rate we found. Service was pretty good, used their pleases and thank yous. Paint was chipping on some walls, some small stains. The room was extremely small for the price in my opinion. The bathroom was clean, bedding was clean. The mattress and pillows were as hard as a rock and hard to sleep on. I needed to get to the medical district early and was very happy with the location. Didn't have time to eat out or do much around downtown, but it seemed pretty close to some nice restaurants, the park, etc.
“Very pleasantly surprised”
Since I had to be at DePaul for a week, I booked the hotel because of a "stay 3 get one free" deal. I was concerned about the age of the building and quality of the rooms as the visit approached and I hoped for the best. I was very pleasantly surprised that the room and entire stay wildly exceeded my expectations. Very spacious room, a suite with a large living room, couch and desk, a king sized bed, a large bathroom with relatively new fixtures and good ventilation. Located right in the heart of the action, the hotel/room was one of the best parts of the visit to Chicago. Very comfortable - give it a try.
“Great location, very accommodating”
The Travelodge Hotel Downtown was in the best possible location. It was an easy 15-minute walk from Union Station; two blocks from the Metra and X28 bus stop, both of which took me directly to the University of Chicago for my three-day stay, and about four blocks from the Blue Line, which took me to all the nighttime hot spots. Also close to the beautiful Grant Park. And felt fairly secure, as well. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially on the day I checked out. That afternoon, I was left with a couple hours in need of a safe place to sit and charge my laptop and cell phone (and not be required to buy anything), and the folks at Travelodge warmly welcomed me to sit in the lobby to do my business. The room, and especially the bathroom, was pretty tiny, but I didn't spend much time in it, so that was not an issue. And given it's prime location and great staff, I'd definitely stay again. As a side note, the Congress Plaza Hotel (my first choice) was the only other with a better location, but their workers are on strike, and as the song goes, "I will never walk across a picket line!"
“Contruction”
While I stayed here, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. There was construction across the street. The location is perfect, walk to most locations. I booked a deluxe double and only received the regular double, however, it was still roomy enough.
