“Canyon de Chelly Holiday Inn one of the best”

Other than the wait to get in this was very good. Most hotels now provide a free breakfast, this didn't, probably check other hotels next time.

“too much smoke”

We were booked in a smoking room and neither of us smoke. They said they were booked and would not change our room. We asked if they would deoderize the room, and they said room service would definitely take care of it, but upon returning to the room it smelled the same, like a wet ashtray, absolutely gross. We ended up checking out 1 day early and since they insisted on payment up front, they would not refund our one night not spent. Also the food in the hotel restaurant was consistently served cold, as was the coffee.

“Convenient to the Canyon”

The hotel was well cared for and very convenient to Canyon De Chelly. The pool was very nice and convenient. There were quite a few stray dogs that took up residence in the parking lot during the day. They didn't seem to bother anyone and I was fine with it but someone who is not a dog person might not like it. The restaurant food and service was very below average.

Area recommendations

The turn outs for the Canyon had a number of individual Navajo vendors with handmade jewelry. They jewelry was lovely and the prices were very low. I wish I had purchased more but was on a motorcycle and couldn't carry more.

“Avoid”

Confusingly laid-out campus, worst wifi ever (more like dial-up speeds), stopped serving breakfast twenty minutes before posted time, pricey for the area. Enough said!

Any place is fine in Chinle if you are there to go to Canyon de Chelly, which is what 90% of people going there do, I guess.

“Great hotel, but needs to be more careful with charging its customers”

We had a fantastic stay - the hotel was clean and well maintained, and staff were very helpful. The only problem we has was that the hotel accidentally charged strange amounts to my credit card, and it took a few phone calls (and some convincing) to sort this out. That said, the money was returned and we did have a lovely stay.

“Pleasant stay.”

The hotel is situated close to the entrance of Canyon de Chelly, so that's a plus. The restaurant was very good, with huge potions at breakfast (the only meal we ate there). The room was clean and comfortable, as well as quiet. Parking near the building we stayed in was at a premium, but there's parking towards the front of the complex. Also, the vending machine by our room was out of order, but that's a minor inconvenience. Overall, we had a good stay.

The restaurant at the hotel was good with large portions.

“unreliable restaurant staff”

Hotel stay was great. The restaurant's breakfast staff was a "no show" on a Saturday morning! The hotel clerk and one cook were the only ones present at 6:30 AM. I had not eaten the night before due to coming in late (the restaurant closes at 8:30 PM) so I was anticipating a good breakfast. No manager in sight; no 'back up' staff either! The numerous hotel guests were upset, to say the least, and the only other restaurant in town does not open till 8 AM. Fast food places were available. What a huge disappointment! I had a meeting to attend so I didn't stay around. I would stay again at the hotel again ...... would probably make sure I had a cooler with plenty of food!

Area recommendations

No nightlife or places to hang out in the evening so bring a good book or hope you enjoy watching TV.

“restaurant and hotel”

restaurant within the hotel made this stay much more convenient and enjoyable. the gift shop had a clearance sale so that was very fortunate. staff displayed professionalism and promptness with meals and checkin/out of hotel.

Traveler's tip

canyon entrance and visitor center is close by. No nightlife but would have been too tired to go out after a full day of sightseeing, hiking, and driving anyway.
