portavenere is best place to stayPosted Aug 2, 2013 on Hotels.com
I found out that I am glad that I booked a stay in portovenere instead of one of the 5 towns in the cinque terre . Taking the boat taxi to the towns is very enjoyable and you get to see all you need to during short visits to the towns. Then you come back to a larger town with more options to eat, shop and stay. If you stay in the towns you will probably get stuck lugging bags uphill and down with stairs and such everywhere. The pool was the best part of the hotel. The room was small but adequate.

Gorgeous view of the bay from our balcony.Posted Jul 4, 2013
Pros: location, food, atmosphere
Cons: It's all good.
Location: On the water with water sports available. Beach is gravel, not sand. Near the ferry to Cinque Terre. Beautiful area.
Beautiful hotel and location located a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Cinque Terre. Excellent location, food and atmosphere.

Minor Gripes..Posted Jul 3, 2013
Pros: the swimming pool
Cons: no tea making facilities in room
Location: Absolutely superb, it's best feature.
Overall impression was good, one or two minor gripes, such as having to pay for internet use, no tea making facilities in rooms.

Royal Sporting - neither appliesPosted Jun 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
Very disappointed. 4 star - no way. Tried to charge us for a bucket of ice we collected from the bar. Advertises a beach opposite - we went and they wanted to charge us even though we were guests at the hotel. We walked away. The hotal is a good long walk from the village.

Beautiful viewPosted Jul 2, 2012 on Hotels.com
The view from the room is amazing. There is a castle/church at the tip of the beach, less than a mile away that you must go see for sunset. Highlight of our trip. There's a walkway down to the water to sit on the rocks and watch the sun go down and also many beautiful photo opportunities along the way! Hotel is very clean and has a nice size balcony with amazing view. The pool is well maintained and has a diving board. The hotel has a restaurant and there is also many restaurants with beach view just down the road. The restaurants do close early for dinner, unlike in rome and most of italy,so be sure to go early! Theres is a free beach directly across the road from hotel and right next to it is a private beach that cost us 15 euros for the day, with umbrella and lounge chairs! Also food, ice cream, drinks available for sale. I recommend this option, it's well worth it! The beach has no sand just rocks or pebbles so laying without a chair won't be too comfortable. Breakfast was out by the pool which didn't make much sense to me as there was a restaurant. There was flies all over food and the juice wasn't really fruit juice. If you want real orange juice you have to pay extra. Another thing to know is that the hotel is easy to find but the drive is all turns up and down the mountains, not good if you get car sick. The staff is great and many of them speak english. This area seems to be a place where italians vacation and not as touristy as cinco terre.

Great Hotel in a great locationPosted Apr 23, 2011 on Hotels.com
This hotel was easily the best place on the Porto Venere waterfront. It was about a 10 minute walk to Castello with numerous restaurants and cafes in the vicinity. The high point for me was the massive parking garage in this parking space starved town. We didn't have to move the car at all until we drove to Florence. This is a very nice hotel; clean and well staffed. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again, especially in the high season because of the pool and great access by boat to Cinque Terre.
