Shower head needs replacing. Difficult to find good early morning coffee close to the hotel. Most places with in a block or two don't open until 9am. Hotel is generally in good shape and the staff really are great! Also, the restaurants around Filmore are quite good especially, Bun Mee, the Grove and Sweet Maple.

Pros: The aesthetics are lovely but the hotel is outdated and a bit sullied. It is centrally located and close to a lot of attractions.
Cons: Deep clean and update the rooms and common spaces.
Location: Japantown is great, the Fillmore is just down the street, and there are great restaurants and shopping close by.
We were initially given a room that had not been cleaned and was full of trash. When I went back down and told the front desk, he sent us up to another room, but didn't offer to assist us or make any amends for the error. The room we were given was not altogether clean. The bathroom floor was sticky and the threshold was dirty. The carpets were matted and didn't look clean. The room was comfortable, but not worth the high room rate. The advertised "Japanese Soaking Tub" was not as deep or comfortable as my claw foot at home.

Pros: Central access to Japan town. The soaking tub, décor and Japanese garden.
I had the King Deluxe Room. Upon check in I was given the wrong room, it was supposed to have the soaking tub but didn’t, at first the front desk person argued that my room did have the tub but after a short conversation he realized his mistake and quickly corrected it. He told me the number of my new room but when I got there the key wouldn’t open the door; however the guest in that room did, oops! Front desk transposed the number when he told me, the right number was written on the key envelope. No biggie. The Hotel was nicely decorated with its own access to the Japanese mall. Parking was easy with a public parking garage right below the hotel and a dedicated elevator. The room was a bit small, nothing really special but very nicely decorated. The soaking tub was nice and functional. My room had good city views and a distant partial view of the Golden Gate. They have an unexpected and very nicely manicured Japanese garden and Koi pond nestled in between the buildings. And hey! I found out I like Sake they have a complimentary Sake tasting hour from 4-5. Nice touch. Over all I think the place is a bit over priced. I booked through Expedia for $199 which was cheaper than the regular hotel rate. It seems a bit steep for a mid-week rate one night stay (Tuesday night.) But hey! I was there on business so the company picked up the tab! Over all the staff were friendly, great location in Japan town and a slightly above average room.

We apologize for the initial miscommunication in getting you settled into your room, and we're excited that your experience from there was an inviting, comfortable and memorable one. We take great care to afford our guests with unique opportunities, including our signature sake tastings, and we're pleased these lent an added touch to your stay. This was a lovely personal hotel to stay in. Small size hotel, so not too loud or crowded. Bathroom was a highlight....Japanese style shower and tub. Not all rooms have the same great bathroom, I was very lucky to get the deep tub, so you might want to request it. The bed was comfortable and cozy, and I had a great stay. I even got sick one night, and had to call down for help, and someone took care of my needs quickly. I definitely recommend this hotel for a quiet stay. Also, I was there for a training conference, and the room we used was spacious, and the catered breakfasts were yummy!

Nice hotel in Japantown

Posted Feb 26, 2015
Pros: Friendly and accommodating front desk staff. Excellent location.
Location: In Japantown. One block from Geary, and not far from Union Square (a short bus ride or a pleasant but long walk).
We stayed 5 nights at Hotel Kabuki, visiting relatives who live near Japantown. The hotel is very nice, but showing signs of age. I understand a renovation is planned in the near future. The room was pleasant, with comfortable beds, but it was difficult to control the room temperature. The bathroom needs redesign, as there is a too-small deep soaking tub and a shower outside the tub, which results in water getting all over the floor. There are sliding doors across the windows, but they are difficult to maneuver. Our room was quiet, however, and the staff was very pleasant. All in all, if you are looking for a comfortable hotel in a nice section of San Francisco, away from the madness of downtown (Union Square and Market Street), this is a nice choice. I would stay there again.

Wonderful hotel next to the Japan Center

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Location: Japan Center, Fillmore Street, California Street (cable car) ca. 10min away
Wonderful, cozy hotel next to the Japan Center in Japantown. Walking distance to more shops at Fillmore Street. Lots of shops and restaurants next door in the Japan Center, perfect if you like sushi, ramen & shabu shabu. Hotel was very clean and quiet. Pro: they have a taxi transfer service to the airport, for $16. Contra: when I came from the BART station with my luggage, there is no direct bus transfer. So taxi costed me $15 for a 10min ride.

Cute hotel with good location

Posted Feb 21, 2015
I really enjoyed this hotel. The gardens outside the lobby were beautiful. My room was surprisingly large. I loved the deep bathtub and separate shower. The restaurant attached had a good happy hour. One thing that was particularly good is the location. It is central to some main points of the city yet not in the chaos. I was on a girls trip but would love to bring my family to this hotel. Not to be forgotten was the very friendly front desk and vallet.
