Staff were friendly. Breakfast was OK although a few more choices would have been nicer. It is quite close to tenderloin and the less savoury part of market street so you will see plenty of homeless people but I didn't feel unsafe. It is close to van ness and two BART stops so getting public transport up to the main sights is easy (you can buy a pass from city hall)

We stayed for two nights and loved it. Great atmosphere, modern, clean and very comfortable. Great bathrooms with nice touches of a Japanese theme.
A 30 min walk from Union Square and central to all Japan Town restaurants and shops. Easy transport access though it takes a long time to get around SF and I would recommend walking when you can!

I booked this hotel because our family was going to Fleet Week in SF. The hotels we choose are usually boutique, cozy, with charm. I wanted to book a fun hotel that was more focussed on what my boys really love, gaming. This hotel was boutique, cozy, and brought a different charm to our usual choice. The way the anime was displayed, and the influence throughout the hotel was done very tastefully. Clean, very polite hotel staff with excellent meal/dinner suggestions. Dinner suggestions at other hotels (we've stayed), seem to be a reflection of whatever is the trendy tourist spot at the moment, as opposed to where the staff truly likes to have a great meal themselves. A wonderful stay. We've already recommended this hotel to friends and family.

We got more than we paid for. It's not a high end hotel in the perfect location but for us it was what we signed up for. The king size bed and pillows were super comfortable! Mel's Diner next door was a wonderful option for breakfasts. Easy to walk to desired destinations or catch public transportation anywhere if that's your choice. The decor isn't great but it felt warm and the staff were easy going.
