“Good hotel for the limited selection”
This town is VERY small so this hotel is really one of the only ones in the area. It is fairly clean (there was a bug in the bathroom). The only thing is it was CROWDED with tour bus travellers.
“A good Bunratty experience”
This was our first time staying at Bunratty. We've stayed in Limerick, and Adare and prefer to stay just outside the city. Staying in a hotel like Bunratty means you get lots of character and ambience but probably not all the amenties of a modern hotel. The plumbing was sluggish depending on the water pressure, there is no in-room safe, etc., the old doors slam shut rather noisily in the halls... but that is what you trade for being in a beautiful old hotel sitting right next to a castle, and a conveniently located pub (Durty Nelly's, we still love you). What you don't want to trade is the service, and it was great at Bunratty - very accomodating even on late night requests when the kitchen was supposed to have closed. ;) Yes, Bunratty does attract the tour busses, and there was a wedding there while we stayed, which is normally the WORST time to stay, but Bunratty manages it all well. The hotel is spread out enough that if they place your room properly (which they did, Thank you!) none of these things disturbed us in the least. All in all we will come back again. I do wish the shops in the park were better. It seems you'd want shops there that were more traditional, localy made, items? Just a thought.
“Good customer service”
We left some items in room and they mailed them back home to us!
“Good experience”
Hotel was a good experience. Good value for the cost. Does attract tour groups.
“Bunratty Castle Hotel”
I had been advised to contact the hotel in advance of our stay to ask for a room in the new part of the hotel. We were quite pleased we did this. The room was large, clean and well appointed. We did have friends staying in the older section who advised us their room was quite a bit smaller, but clean, nonetheless. We would not normally stay in a tourist area, however, we were attending a wedding at the nearby Dromoland Castle. This was a nice central location ( the wedding couple had planned a bus tour for the attendees) to visit The Burren, The Cliffs of Moher and various other stops. There was a pub located on the property which served a nice lunch as well as the famous Dirty Nelly's located across the street.
“happy surprise”
We booked this hotel to be close to Shannon Airport for an early flight the next morning. Someone told us there was a free shuttle, so we were disappointed to learn the shuttle did not start as early as we needed and anticipated an expensive taxi ride, or hassle, or undependable service, etc. How happy we were to learn first, that the hotel would provide us a continental breakfast at our early hour, our choice of in-room or in-lobby... and second, that the hotel would set up the taxi and had a guaranteed discounted rate since they were unable to provide the service themselves. Everything was very slick and positively timely!
“I'm happy with Bunratty!”
The hotel was close to the airport, clean and with friendly staff. The area around the hotel was nice - and easy to get around without a car. It was a great place to spend my first day - low key.
“Bunratty Castle Nightmare”
The room was a good size, but the bed hard as a board and there was a permanent dusty smell. We would have been okay with the smell and the bed being the only problems but the customer service was terrible. Since the room had no clocks or anything to wake you up in the morning, we had to constantly ask for wake up calls. Out of the four times we asked for a wake up call, they only called us once and another time they were 30 minutes late. When we asked them about the wake up calls they replied that they were too busy sometimes to provide it. Well, if they are too busy to provide a service, then they shouldn't provide it at all. We even asked if we could get a clock placed in our room and they said that wasn't possible. I have never been to a hotel room were there wasn't a clock. We also had no idea how to get ice. The room did not have an ice bucket and since this was an older building we had no idea if there was an ice machine at all. We had to call twice about ice until they finally told us where to locate the ice machine. I even searched through the hotel information book and the ice machine was not even mentioned. There is one good thing about the hotel and that is their breakfasts. If you still feel the urge to go to this hotel and brave through all of the bad service and stinky rooms then you have to get the traditional Irish breakfast option added to your stay. It was amazingly delicious.
“Downward Slide”
We got a great rate from Expedia on the night we stayed and thats the only good thing I can say about it. We stayed in the hotel last July and thought it was fine but the past 10 months seems to have taken a significant toll on the property. Everything seemed quite run down and beaten up. In particular our TV was quite old with the picture flickering.
“everything closes sooo early good luck geting food”
we arrived at 9am and the room wasnt ready helen told us to go have breakfast which we did ,it was a very good breakfast and its free, we checked into our room the bed wasnt made ,we didnt have amentiys in the bathroom . it was a very boring hotel evrything closes at 9pm . we were exhuasted we naped so long it was past 9pm and we had no place to get food .Everyone was friendly and nice it was just an ok stay
