“pleasantly surprised”
I was leery about this hotel because it was rated low and had some poor reviews. I was very pleased upon arriving entering the room. I upgraded to lake view and it is DEFINITELY worth the small fee. The room was large, clean, and comfortable. They must have fixed the hot water issues because I had a great shower; they could use some new towels, though. We had a romantic getaway for the weekend, but this place is absolutely excellent for the kids: generous lawns and playground, tons of picnic tables and BBQs, and docks to walk directly out onto the lake. The staff was very attentive, and representative of the local flavor. Great location, great view, great stay!
“Lakeport's best (?)”
If I ever need to go back to Lakeport again, I will try to stay at this hotel
“Going back soon”
Great
“Right on the Lake”
Room overlooking Clear Lake. Very clean, everything worked. No complaints at all.
“I will go back in the future.”
I was born in Lakeport and grew up their, the Skylark was their as far back as I can remember. I graduated in 1963, so its been their well over 50 years. I can remember people saying how good it was, so I would guess things didn't change over the years. My hat is off to the owners, thats a long time to stay on top off their business. Great job.
“The view of the lake makes this place special”
Not "fancy" but they make up for that with a very pleasant, comfortable, clean rooms. Highly recommend the rooms that face the lake. It was the view that made it a special experience. The cabins and rooms without a lake view were not so special. Need to go down the street or into town to eat.
“Greatest Scenery Ever”
This place was awesome. My husband, 2 teenage sons, and I often take weekend trips and this place was amazing. From the room we had, we could see the lake and I could see my kids fishing off the dock from my window. (yes, I'm overprotective) My husband and I had a million giggles playing ping pong and tetherball outside :) My kids had such a great time, they didn't even plug in their xbox which they brought without my knowledge. lol It was really clean but yes, there were some chips in the paint and you could see some wear. The beds were comfy and clean. The rooms were more spacious than I thought they'd be. (from other reviewer pictures) We had an upstairs room and I didn't hear any other guests once we were in our rooms and it was a completely sold out weekend. For the record, I'm no snob by any means but I wouldn't stay at a motel 6 type place either. We already have plans for a return trip here!
“Amazing charm you cant get w/ cookie cutter hotel!”
There is no doubt that this resort has been around for many many years, and in light of that it is well maintained and has a character unlike any cookie cutter hotel that my family has stayed at. It's lake front location with boat docks and huge grassy areas with big shady trees are wonderful for families. My sons (5 and 2 yrs) had a great time playing on the property. Our room had our own porch complete with lawn chairs and charcoal bbq that opened to the large grassy area and lakeside seawall. Very ideal for those who have the chance to bring a boat as the resort has direct access to the lake and plenty of space to park the trailers. There are boat rentals nearby as well that you could dock up at the hotel. The staff was amazingly friendly and very accommodating. I cant confirm, but I did get the impression that it was a family run resort. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with TV, mini fridge, microwave, dining table and desk. Another thing to note is that if we had neighbors, I never heard them, it was refreshingly quiet, unlike cookie cutter hotels that you hear everybody coming and going. The resort's location was very nice too, as it was at the north end of "downtown" Lakeport, with it's mom & pop shops & boutiques as well as great places to eat all within walking distance.
“Very nice lakefront Roooms!”
This hotel sits at an ideal location..right on Clearlake! The views from the lakefront rooms are breathtaking! The room itself was spacious and comfortable. The furniture could be updated, but everything was very clean. There are many rooms that are not so appealing, but adequate for the money. These line the entrance and have a "motel" feel. Ask for a lakefront room in the 2 story building (the one in the picture of hotel ad) and you will NOT be disappointed. I was there in November and rates were VERY reasonable, not sure what rates are like in summer. The manager, Audrey, was extremely helpful and nice. I am looking forward to coming back soon!
“Great deal and lovely location on the lake”
People were very nice and helpful (especially the manager, Ken). Had a gorgeous view. They are in the process of upgrading this "landmark" hotel. Need new towels and linens perhaps but still very clean and affordable. Great for family vacation, a getaway and walking distance to town. I will go back!
